GNOME-Look.org

By Frank
Published: Jun 13 2004

KDE-Look.org got a new sister today. GNOME-Look.org is the KDE-Look.org counterpart for the GNOME community.

GNOME-Look.org is closely connected to KDE-Look.org. The user database and a few content categories are shared.

The purpose of GNOME-Look.org is to support the GNOME art community and to bring the KDE and GNOME communities closer together. Let's work towards unified icons, themes and skins and push the free desktop as a whole.

freedesktop.org we might actually be able to do some real good here, if people can get down from their "my desktop is better than yours" pedestal. As Frank says, such things as unified icon and widget themes are a biggie, and will greatly improve the desktop. I for one will be very happy to re-create some of my work so that it can be used by both desktops, when a naming scheme for icons has been decided on.

As I understand it, fd.o is working on this at the moment ( http://freedesktop.org/pipermail/xdg/2004-May/003989.html ), and I am much looking forward to it, as it will make life a lot easier for graphics designers making icons (it is currently an absolute nightmare to find out about icon naming).

Widget themes are also a possibility, where work such as MetaTheme ( http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=13010 )is looking very interesting indeed.

I welcome gnome-look.org and look forward to much productive discussion and suchlikes. Welcome to the family.

:D Thats me!

Anyways... for those looking for Crystal GNOME themes, visit http://www.crystalgnome.org

I am a co-fouder of the project, after I ported the Crystal icons from KDE to GNOME (with help of many members from LinuxCult (http://www.linuxcult.com))

I will discuss this site with the Crystal For GNOME team, and I'll see if we can upload our themes here too. (Our current hoster is http://www.customize.org)

I hope it does unify KDE and GNOME artwork in an unprecended way.

I only wish the GNOME community was as friendly towards KDE and its technologies as this community is. I haven't seen too many Qt to GTK engines or any serious effort from theri side to unify the two desktops.

It's great, i'm quite borring to see these little stupid "war" between gnome and kde "clans"... Well it's a very nice idea and it will make more easy the artwork sharing ans development into the linux community, i hope.

Have a nice day.

All that's missing now is www.gnome-apps.org, and the jigsaw will be finished and there'll be a whole lot of happy campers.
