I would call "walking on their own" building their distribution from scratch, like debian did. Ubuntu and none of its respins "walk on their own" seeing as how they just use a debian unstable snapshot. So really eb4, OpenGEU, Sidux, and the others you are mentioning are just riding on the back of the debian development team for the most part :)

since when it ies tradition here to be nice to each other??

The answer is: since always. Ubuntu forums live from helping each other, working together and being good to each other. We see our forums as something like a big familiy, where everabody is nice to his next.

So we do quite not understand, why you are so disgusting here on this page.

Because I think, your problem is just in your head and your not being pationed. Because no one here has this problem of slow loading of this page.

This is more or less a Forum for Suse-Users, Ubuntu-Users and as well also for Debian.Users.

Here we post our artworks so that they are open and available for everybody who likes them.

We do not charge any money, because we do all our artwork in our freetime.
And that's why people here are good to each other. Because everybody recognises the hard work behind all these artworks here. I hope, one day you will also put up some artwork here.

And this group was founded because here are so many people who really hate Windows for it's weakness and other points of making someone hate Windows.
And that's the oportunity we take, to make the real Windows-Feeling available for Linux. We enjoy it and we like to use this feeling in Linux.

Why we enjoy Linux (Ubuntu, etc)? Because Linux makes the world rock!!!

Greetings
Karmicbastler

I do have several gdm themes contributed to this website, which you would know if you were smart enough to check me out before making wild comments. Also..what the hell does any of what you said have to do with anyone having to be nice to each other? Are you on drugs?

Also notice I dont brand my themes with distribution logos. That way they can suit any distribution of GNU/linux or anything that runs GDM if you wanna get real technical.

Do your homework in the future.

there wouldn't be groups with the words

Anyways, I don't take a lot said on this

yeah, you're genius! your son, or your grand children, or great grand children are tough of using Windows for their whole life and pay to the such "good" operating system because it is paid one, while not using the OPEN SOURCE one because it is free, well known as "low class" by some of those who has IQ level below 40 (you're not :-)0........

then, you should read more about open source and not just it's mean is "FREE"

And here I thought this website was open to the public? Windows users can certainly find interest in and use the wallpapers we create! In fact, I', sure that more than one or two of the wallpapers on this site were created in a windows environment using photoshop or whatever it is that windows users are using today :)

hi Dear,

I am well aware, that I have not much artwork up here until up to now and it was not in my intention to make you angry. I just had a lok on your artwork.

Do you work on such things as a professional? Because I saw, that you work in SIndustries.

And yes, I had a go on looking on your profile page. OK, we can have a go on comparing our artwork among each other in futere. No problem by this. I am working on several things. The only things is, that I am looking out for a good provider for storing and sharing these files then.
That's why I am having a go on looking on different providers at the moment.

Then I found out, that you live in the United States. I am a great Fan of your President Barrack Obama. He is by far the best president of the United States up to now. OK, he also has his faults (this will not be disregarded. No.)
I had been already over to the States in 1997 for some weeks. And I also visited the West-Coast of the United States.

But I will never have a go to see Silicon Valley. I hate this Company Microsoft with Bill Gates (former Boss of this Company). I had too much anger with this Bullshit. That's why I changed over and I enjoy Linux so much.

The Kernel is the Background of this System. But here are many different Distros existing. I konw. I have already tested OpenSuse. But with no success. My hardware was the Problem. espacially my WLAN-Stick did not work in OpenSuse. But in Ubuntu it does from the first minute on. And also my other hardware runs out-of-the-box in Ubuntu. And what the nice thing is: you can make your Ubuntu look like every other Distro existing.

All you need for this are the correct Metacity-themes including the gtk-engines, the iconthemes, the Wallpapers, the corresponding Start-Orb (which I already have) and the corresponding panel-backgrounds (I have a package full of panel-backgrounds).

So this is how I love my Ubuntu tu be: colorful and flexible and ready to take over the look and feel from other Distros (also Mac).

Greetings
Karmicbastler

Just upgraded my profile to reflect each of the machines I own, what they run, and their purpose. Sindustries is not a place of work, Its a non-profit IRC network open to the public that I provide free of charge. Our website http://www.sindustries.org is in the process of an overhaul right now and we are trying to decide which way we want to go with it So don't expect much. Sindustries main focus is freedom of speech, and users being competent enough to run their own irc channels with the ircd and irc services we provide them. We also have a social site of our own located at http://sindustries.ning.com (we will be coming up with a way to import all of that content into the main sindustries site seamlessly) although if you have a weak stomach, I don't suggest you go there, I allow everyone to put whatever sort of content they like onto that server as it goes along with our main mandate of FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

although Windows has so much virus, while Linux appears to be "immune" to those, Linux also have some specific weakness...

if Linux take place where Windows are now, then Linux will be just like windows.
----

and, this is a page to take whatever you hate about windows out laud, not to show that we are super-genius, this is a page to asks for people's opinions, that's why such group exists.., so, if there is any Microsoft technicians here, they will Laugh Out Loud LOL!!!!! and do something to repair any weakness of Windows. Furthermore, if you like to create a group named "Linux Haters" go on....

We would like to welcome any old PC users that loves to have "Windows 7" feelings, because such "windows 7" feelings is also exists in Linux as said by Karmicbastler...

now, you have to decide for your self, its your own money... Windows if you can afford it, or Linux which giving you the Whole Home and Humanity (Ubuntu).

Thats all.......

finally, I'm not super genius, I'm a normal users just like everyone else do... I'm here to show my opinions, any comments are welcomed (eg, to backup Microsoft, or to say that Linux sucks or GTFO anything...) we are not perfect, and no one is better. Its your money and your decision

When canonical starts giving me some of that profit of theirs for using ubuntu, then Ill start recommending it. The same goes for red hat, suse, and any other distributions of linux that have profit from the work of others (IE: the people that maintain the linux kernel and the millions of open sourced applications that these distributions don't mind profiting from). I understand, everyones gotta make a dime, but why gouge everyone else down the line that you use to make your profit? Atleast MS hands out paychecks for the people that maintain the pieces of their OS and bundled applications.

How is Linux gouging us down? They're giving away their OS for free. The only way they make any money is from the people who choose to buy their software and Ubuntu One (in Canonical's case). Maybe even ads if they have any, though I haven't seen any. Plus even if they are making money why do you even care? They're giving away most of their products for free. If they can somehow make money off of giving things away for free I would be impressed rather than mad.

it is true that linux might have some vurnerabilities, but on the other hand. linux has got apparmor, the rights management system, the package manager and all other stuff that protects it from attacks.

a few weeks ago i read in linux-magazine an article about an hackers-confrence.
a group of hackers tried to infect as many pc's as they could in just under a month. windows 7 failed after 6 hours. macbook air failed after 3 days, but during the whole event the ubuntu-laptop couldn't be hacked.

so i won't claim it's impossible to hack it, but it's very very difficult to hack an up-to-date linux.

linux is getting more marketshare over the years. so, when the time is there that linux conquers the world, nearly all the security-holes will be plugged.

so don't say it would be the same as windows. linux would contain some virusses, but it won't be as bad as XP is and it will never be as bad.

there's no point forcing others to use some specific OS, it is so unfair as done by the group of hackers. They are just giving away their money to Anti-Virus supplier, which cost crapton of money already

The best award winning Linux virus is Backdoor that appears like doing nothing, but which uses the authority of "Superuser" user in Linux session. It still can be vulnerable to openport viruses etc... Getting up to date is just another way to prevent from being infected. If Linux is taking place where Windows are now, it will be just like Windows, eg, viruses... or people will find whatever their weakness or creating a "Linux Haters" group.

Still, Linux is the best for their Openness.... While windows if you "HAPPY" paying for it, or excessive viruses out there (still can buy an antivirus, Ohhhh you'll love buying)

Everybody loves Windows, yeah, everybody loves it because of its fresh air, and hell, I love my door also...

The main vulnerability that GNU/Linux, *BSD, OSX, and windows all share is people that don't know what they are doing. My solution to fix this in GNU/Linux and *BSD ..is quit making distributions that are aimed at idiots that don't want to learn anything. If you want to use GNU/Linux or a *BSD, you should atleast know what the hell you are getting yourself into. At one point, you had to learn windows before you "learned" ubuntu...and by that I mean that if you "learn" ubuntu, you are really learning NOTHING about GNU/Linux, you are simply learning to use synaptic, or apt-get, nothing more. I myself have installed and given a go with more than 200 different distros of GNU/Linux, and I am quite well versed in OpenBSD, FreeBSD, and NetBSD. Its a common fact that BSD users understand how GNU/Linux works better than GNU/Linux users understand how GNU/Linux works. Slackware is a great distribution of GNU/Linux to start with because it makes you actually learn a bit about Linux, not just point and clicking through an install and clicking on synaptic.

sorry but I'm using ubuntu and i'm not always using the point-and-click method. simply because the terminal is in some ways quicker. but hey when you use slackware you might learn more about linux but, reccomending slackware to a noob is not a good idea! because he would say that you have to use that terminal over and over again. in ubuntu things are made simple for people who want it and things are challeging and more advanced for the people who need it.
and ubuntu isn't better because it's free. its better because of its stability, speed, community, its ease-of-use and its flexibilaty! on ubuntu i can move my menu-buttons where I like them to be. on windows the start-butten has only 1 position, the place where bill gates THINKS we want it to be. also if you want another theme on windows you have to hack the whole system! some examples: uxtheme, dll name-hack. super turbo tango patcher for the icon-theme. resource-hacker for the bootscreen etc. etc. etc. you cannot customize windows without hacking it! and it will still suck because, even with hacking, you cannot get the flexibility of ubuntu.

Not trying to bash you or anything, but why arguing that Ubuntu is garbage? I agree with the fact that there are WAY too many people that think that it is the only way and that Windows sucks just because Ubuntu is free. But honestly, nobody is asking you to think it is the best distro.

For me, I don't have time to have an OS that crashes, has to be fiddled with, or cost a lot of money. I need a consistent OS that is free, runs smoothly, fast, gets the job done right, no viruses, good support, etc. While I need those, I don't mind a good looking desktop at the same time. Ubuntu has so far done all of these OOTB for me.

I'm not saying its perfect or it is the best, but I need everything to be automated. Using cloud storage and nice themes that are included by default is definitely a bonus for me.

Also, there are people that use Ubuntu because they are not that computer smart. If a Windows user comes to me and wants something to use that will work without issues, I recommend Ubuntu for the sole purpose that everything is easy, automatic, and has GREAT support. So in terms of people with low IQs I can agree with that =P. I also agree that those people shouldn't say that it is the "Magical OS", but not everyone is like that.

In closing (@ everyone), everyone uses what they like or what they need, if they don't use what you don't that is perfectly okay. Open source should be a good place to be, not coming to a page with people flaming each other. (Even though it is fun to read, and some good points are made)

I also have never liked the Human theme. I have used Humanity, Dust, New Wave, and Elementary. Nothing is perfect, but it does the job great for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of Karmic, but Lucid is running smoothly. Still not perfect, but meets my needs.

Indeed.

[Rant]
right now I'm looking for decent drivers
for my gma500, ubuntu has had "decent"
support, meaning I get the resolution
I paid for, and everything else sucks.

This probably isnt the place to ask as
this is where idiots gather but anyway,
has anyone got a good solution for gma500?

Right now I'm stuck with ubuntu 9.10, it's
all kinds of bad, not gonna start ranting
about that here tho. I really want a
real solution, using ubuntu is absolutely
just temporary, and now I'm sick of it.

Please, tell me you have a solution!

According to what I have read, GMA500 works with patching in 9.10 (which you are already running) but breaks in 10.04 because of the new xorg-server. I have heard that jolicloud has a driver built in and has good performance. I haven't tried it but it might be worth a shot.

Besides that I hear that GMA500 sucks on linux.

Best of luck to you.

Rob, you may want to try the dreaded debian testing netinst! I do know that when I ran debian stable, it didnt like my gma950 very much, since I started using testing, no problems. This leads me to the obvious conclusion that its a driver version issue. Newer version of the intel driver might just be your savior.

months ago, then it was using the same
"psb", "poulsbo" or whatever it was called
so performance was exactly the same with
it or ubuntu, gotta give it another go
now then!

@Twiggz, is just, this card is not supported
by the intel driver, that is just the
problem, hell, this card isnt even
manufactured by intel, from what I hear
the story goes some like this, intel
licensed a company for a gfx card which
hired a third party to make the card
and then im not sure who wrote the drivers
but they are from 2008....
....Yeah, in conclusion, baaaad baaad
card.
