Description:

TaskBar with groupping and group manipulation.

... Many thanks to Nik Skavinsky ...

##### Launchers #####
You can add new launcher by DnD or launch app and press "+" button (preferred) in popup of app.
Button with gears can be used to open new window of app.
Known restrictions:
- Unable to use launchers for GNUStep
- Unable to use launchers for OOo writer, calc, draw, etc
- Only apps from menu can be added
- Some applications written in script languages like python recognized not correctly (because their author forgot to setup name for application)

To pin/unpin launcher you need to open preferences dialog and set 'Attach/Detach' action for group

 Hardy Problem

by drhather on: Mar 7 2009

Score 50%

I was using the 0.10 version which works well but after updating to the 0.125 and then 0.13 a problem occurs. When I launch the applet I have the problem message :
"
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_DockBarApplet".
"
In the console :
"
> dockbar.py run-in-window
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/dockbar.py", line 24, in <module>
import gio
ImportError: No module named gio
"

What can I do ...
What's that gio module ?

You've done something great.. thanks !

Dockbar uses gio to get the correct icon name so that the icon shown in Dockbar will be the one from the current icon scheme. Dockbar 0.1 didn't use this. It's not a necessary part of Dockbar.

Here is a quick fix for the problem. It simply ignores gio if it can't load it. It's based on my experimental version of dockbar but same small fixes could be used on dockbar 0.13. Test it and tell me if it works: http://www.kolumbus.fi/msevens/dockbar/dockbar_0.13-l3-hardy-safe.tar.gz

 Great Work!!

Wonderful applet, i really like the way it works (altough adding launchers is still to be polished).
The only thing i miss is the notification of urgent/changing status windows. Is it in the roadmap?

I really like docks like gnome-do, but this applet can be (obviously) used without a composite manager! :)

Notification of urgent is already implemented in my experimental version if you want to test it.

 experimental doesn't work

I installed launchers version of dockbar from ppa repository, but if I add it to panel it doesn't show me i little white stripe only. I think it's a problem with the icon search engine...

Thanks for the bug report. It has nothing to do with the icons, but with launchers. Dockbar is unable to open a (new) file ~/.dockbar/launchers.list that will be filled with addresses to any launchers you create later. Do you have a ~/.dockbar folder? Do you have a launchers.list file in it? If you do can you paste the content of it here?

ok, now it works. I removed and created again .dockbar folder. This version is very good! But in my opinion is better to close windows with right click.

Sorry, but that makes no sense. Launchers are of course "disabled" until you make them.
