Minimum required   GNOME 2.x

Submitted:  Aug 24 2008
Updated:  Dec 23 2008

Description:

This is a theme for the Lock dialog that is made for the New Wave Theme and GDM.

Installation:

1. Unpack files to /usr/share/gnome-screensaver/. If you update you should replace all old files with the new ones. You may exclude the README file.

2. Open gconf-editor (Alt+F2, type it and press enter) change the entry apps/gnome-screensaver/lock_dialog_theme from 'default' to 'newwave'

3. Enjoy!

To enjoy this theme fully I recommend using a picture of your choice of size 96x96 px. You could change your current one by going to System > Preference > About Me and click on the button besides your name.

If you want to get back you old theme you should do step 3 in reverse: replace 'newwave' with 'default'

New Wave Theme:

Please:

Give your vote (if well-deserved) for the theme and if you don't like something (voted bad) post a comment with request or opinion. This will help me understand what is odd and fix it as soon as possible.

Changelog:

0.1 Initial version
0.2
-Revamped widgets to give them more detail and accuracy.
-Smoother transitions at the edges.
0.3 Layout and colour issues fixed.
0.4 The image box is redesigned a bit for usability reasons.
0.5 Fixed unreadable text in the Leave a Message section.
0.6 Buttons look like New Wave 0.7.0 ones.

 Some things

I have a problem with user image. It is a few pixels below the correct position.
As advice, I would change the background, I would make a gradient between the black screen and the background. And also, It would be great if you give the option to change the background easily.

I don't need to mention that is a great theme.

Is this your first install or you are updating it from older version? If so have you replaced all the files esp. the lock-dialog-newwave.glade one?

Perhaps it's because i have a 15'4 wide screen?
I don't know, but i've replaced all files and my user image has 96x96 pixels.
Is there any way to separate background and the rest of images? I say this because, i think, it would be posible to resize only the background and use a fix size of the rest of images (entry box, shadows, etc)

In that case I don't know what the problem might be. On my pc it looks fine as the screenshot shows. You could try to delete all files (from the theme) and then copy them again.

About the gradient - I have made one at the top and the bottom. Can you be more specific about what gradient you imagine?

I wish I could change my bg easily but currently I can't think of way this is going to happen by using glade and gtkrc files. They are just so clumsy. If you know a way I would be happy to hear it :)

Sorry, I only have edited a gtk theme or metacity, but no this one, i don't know which are the limits.
With the gradient, I mean a smooth transition between the black part of the window and the start of the personal background. For example, using a gradient from black to brown in all the edges. Other option is to use a "cloud" method, i mean, like a dream (in films).
About the error, i'll try to replace all files another time, but i can't find the problem.

Sorry!!
I haven't realised that in your last version you have eliminated the portion of backgroud out of the rectangle. It's good that way.
The error keep. i'll try to change parameters.

Editing glade files should happen with the Glade Interface Designer and is very intuitive and easy ;)

About the wide screen I think that this should not be a problem as the window has fixed width and height. Maybe restarting Xserver will fix it.

I'd love to see a blue variant, though.

 Bug

Hi,

The work is amazing. Thanks for the upload.

One problem though, if you try to leave a message then the header is black with black background and very difficult to see. Changing the text font to something lighter would make it good. Other than that, this is just great.

I'm currently working on this but unfortunately with no success. It somehow does not obey the rules as I've set all labels to be white. It instead uses the black color from text buttons. I'll keep pushing.

Thanks fro the feedback however :)
