Description:

This is a massively improved variant of the well-known Gartoon theme, used by e.g. Edubuntu. Some work may also be based on the Gnutoon/Ubuntoon variant by reassuringlyoffensive. The theme is released under GPL v2 or later.

In the context of GPL, "source code" is interpreted as the SVG versions of the icons; this means that if you distribute Gartoon Redux icons or any derivative versions of them, you have to provide the SVG versions.

This package is also available in Ubuntu, though it may be slightly out of date. To install it, simply run:

sudo apt-get install gnome-icon-theme-gartoon-redux

At the moment, only the source version is available. To install, unpack in a suitable directory and run the following commands in the terminal:

./configure
make
sudo make install

To speed this up, you can use "make -jN" as the second command, where N is the number of hardware threads in your processor (e.g. "make -j4"), so that more than one SVG is rendered at the same time.

Changelog:

2013-09-30 - version 1.11
New / improved icons for LibreOffice, Mendeley, Online Accounts, GMail, Deja Dup, Gnome Color Manager, Ubuntu One, Ubuntu One Music and Subtitle Editor.

 Folder Change

Thanks so much for the great theme. It looks great and has icons for everything!!

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how I could change the default folders to look like the blue folders from the Kamel icon set:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Kamel+icons?content=59006

I tried copying the kamel folder icons and replacing the gartoonredux "folder.svg" file and any others that look like they are used for the folder icons, and placed the new set in a folder in ~/.icons, but it didn't work. The icon folders just defaulted to some simple grey ones.

I am using Gutsy 7.10 -so compize

If anyone can help I would be so happy as my perfect desktop would be complete.

Thanks,

Devi

OpenOffice.org is completely unthemable via standard means. There are hacky and very user-unfriendly methods, i.e. replacing the Industrial theme, but generally the only way to properly theme OO.o is to work with its developers and include your theme in the source tree of OO.o.

 Fallback theme

by thenktor on: Mar 23 2008

Hi! The index.theme file should have a line "Inherits=Tango, gnome, hicolor, crystalsvg" to use these icon themes as fallback, if some icons are missing.

Yes, I somehow dropped this line from the index, it will be fixed in 1.4. BTW, hicolor is inherited by default, it doesn't need to be specified in this line.

The download link is for 1.3, not 1.4.
