For the upsets about he is asking donations: STFU. You don't know what GPL is, so stop NOW and go read.

Author: Charge as much as you want, and make a great iconset.

You could even release the iconset only for who pays for it, GPL means only that you will need to release the sources together with final artwork. GPL has nothing about charging, and much less with asking donation.

It's nice to see that the people who are backing me up are other artists! Thanks.

Not asking for donations, but demanding them instead. That is the difference and thus stops making it a donation but a payment for a commercial product. You seem to be more of a troll than anyone else here. Get a clue.

you really think someone will pay 10$ to get a compilation of icons already available with some ridiculous minor changes ?? I hope that your shabby idea won't propagate in this site.. People produce stuff thousand times more valuable than what you did and don't try to have it commercialised.

Why not? We also waist our time reading comments like yours.

That's your opionion. But it doesn't make sense that you want to pay for the acc and tango while -at the same time- attacking him 'cause of the Donation thing. Furthermore there are already LGPL'ed Icon sets that are commercial.

If you don't like it, don't download it and don't spam this thread.

I'm not 'spamming' ! I'm expressing my opinion and I have the right to do so. This site is about sharing a passion, not about making money. That's my opinion and I can expressed as long as I have a 'free' gnome-look account !

First off I would like to start off by saying that this is one of the most pleasant looking and at the same time a beautiful set of icons.

I have always been looking for a simple set of icons that were not a mere compilation of vista/mac icons and even if this set sort of uses mac's folder style, I would still say it is 99 percent original. Great job!

And as for the current discussion about the money aspect of this icon set. I personally feel that there is no problem in him asking for donations. I mean c'mon, its not like hes forcing us to pay so I feel making a fuss about it is not something that we should waste our time at.

Please, this post is not attacking anyone's views but merely tries to end the argument.

Hi, I don't want to argue the person who made these icons. It's not a war of 'who will get the last word'. But it seems important to me to say that, in a world where all that people want is to get money, it's nice to find COMMUNITIES and not MARKETPLACES. I mean, I have a blog where I share some tips, I participate in Ubuntu forums to help newbies and I was helped a lot by volunteers, so let's encourage this behaviour and not the opposite one. Because if this kind of things propagate in gnome-look, we'll have wallpapers for 5$ and mouse cursors for 8$. I'm not against donating (Wikipedia is a wonderful example) but I don't like the 'you'll get the latest release if you pay'.

Please, tell me what passion you have shared with the community? As far as I can tell, you and the rest of the trolls in this thread have not submitted a single piece of artwork. Whether someone wants to pay or not is their choice. if you don't want to pay, don't. As of right no, there is no charge or encryption on the uploaded files. So either download and enjoy or please stop trolling. I'm tired of all this nonsense.

Oh I see, you're agressing me now. Well I will stop 'trolling' like you say (giving my opinion). About the 'passion I share', I anticipated your question in my post, but obviously you have reading difficulties. So I'm leaving 'your' thread and hope for you to earn a leaving with these icons :P

I really doubt I can make a living off 10 cents for the few people who wish to get the pre-release. I'm merely trying to offset the cost of my education.

So its based on CC-BY-SA (Tango etc)icons & GPLed/LGPLed ones(crystal). And then you call the result GPLed. The GPL & CC-BY-SA licenses are not compatible. So you are trying to charge for something that appears to be a copyright infringement.

I wasn't aware that Tango was not GPL. However, you can go download Tango at any time. You can also download my sources at any time. And, you can even download this icons set FREE OF CHARGE at any time.
I will iterate once more that the only case in which a mandatory donation is required, is when you want to download a pre-release copy of elementary icons.

P.S. This icon set isn't "based on" anything. It draws inspiration from everywhere. But I don't think it is appropriate to say it has a "base" on any one other's work.

there are some icons there that come straight from tango unmodified. on the other hand as a whole this is a very nice icon set. also i have found some icons that appear to come from the OSX iconset which uses icons straight from Mac OS X and is illegal. the icons you made and modified are nice though.

don't understand the complaints. future versions of the icons can still be downloaded for free regardless. If you want to stay in the cutting edge, then by all means help the author out and donate. Otherwise, just be patient and wait for the free newest set...Not too difficult. Its not like the author has completely shutoff downloading future versions unless you pay for it.
