 Daily counter

by Motorolo on: Dec 13 2008

Score 50%

It would be really useful for me and for many other like me to have a version of your counter which would reset to 0 every day as well as the monthly one. (Or perhaps even in the same screenlet?)
For example many of us have HDSPA internet providers with a certain amount of bytes per day (mine is 100 MB up+dl/day) for an affordable price. When our traffic in a day is more that that the price shoots up. I use your piece of sofware to to control my daily traffic but I have to reset i to 0 every day manualy.
Could you do that?

I have downloaded the lastest version of Netmonitor ( 0.7.4 ) and it worked for my ppp connection. However after disconnecting from the ppp connection the screenlet says:

"Device ppp0 not found
please check your connection
and restart screenlet!"

I then proceeded to reconnect (using wvdial) to re-establish my connection however the screenlet says the same message above. I uninstalled the screenlet, removed the log and Netmonitor folder under .config and reinstalled the screenlet however the same issue persists after disconnecting and then reconnecting. Do I have to quit and restart Netmonitor each time I reconnect? I downgraded to version 0.6 and noticed that when I reconnect to my ppp connection it automatically starts counting.

Thanks! Works perfectly. Really appreciate your fast response.
Earlier someone suggested the feature so that you can specify the start of the month (as in my case, the billing starts at the 5th of the month) I look forward to the implementation of that feature.

Thanks again

Hi!
I'm afraid there's a bug concerning the reset counter every day feature:
When the computer is on at 0:00 h the netmonitor screenlet resets the counter correctly, but when it is off at 0:00 h the counter is not reset next time the computer is switched on. At least this happens with my ppp0 device.

First of all I must say I love this
screenlet,I always use it :)
but i have one problem with it, am not
sure its because of it:
some times when i open my pc, i find
that this screenlet (and only this screenlet)
has gone back to default settings,so
I made a backup of the setting file
so i can replace the default one with it.

is it a known issue?

It's problem of screenlets core, Netmonitor and some others screenlets just need save configuration much more often, so this happens much more often too. You can find solution on https://bugs.launchpad.net/screenlets/+bug/345359 where you can choose from two patchs :)

If I am not wrong, with permissions set to 555 screenlet can't rewrite your settings to default, but it can't update total downlod/upload values.

 Great job!!!

by garyedwardjohnston on: Mar 30 2009

I really needed a simple to use network traffic analyzer and this is great!

A few suggestions that would make this perfect for me:

1: I don't need the speed monitor...there are a million of these. I only need the totals.

2: My monthly usage doesn't start neatly at the beginning of the month. Actually it starts mid-month, so either manual clearing stats at the end of my period or a way to configure it would be nice.

Thanks,
Gary

PS I can use it the way it is (which I am) but it means that I have a lot of work to do to really track my usage. As it is now I will have to do work twice per month, at exactly the right time, to track my usage properly.
