Description:

An elegant and functional menu with many themes, not just vista.
Currently supported languages:
English, Czech, French, Spanish, Portuguese

THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH UBUNTU 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
The lightweight Vista Menu implementation is compatible.

I may work on this in future, but if any python programmers out there want to take this over and improve it, please email me for the latest source.

INSTALLATION

-Install Dependencies:

sudo apt-get install python2.5 python-xdg python-cairo python-gconf python-xlib deskbar


-Download package from this page
-Extract to your desktop, and double click on the installer inside
-Right click on the gnome panel, and go to 'add to panel' and select vista menu



We need people to help make new themes and translate the menu to new languages! Please send me a message if you can help.

Beta 1.07: Includes new theme and fixes multiple program launching and command line errors
Beta 1.08: Basically a total rewrite!
Beta 1.08_1: Fixed Blue Wave theme.
Beta 1.08_2: More languages added.

Delete your .VistaMenuSettings.xml in your home directory (hidden file). It happens that some themes arent fully updated yet to support the new software.

I have this problem also, as my system is in Portuguese the links of the buttons do not work and I have to edit the xml and there around the problem.

This Menu looks awesome!!! Very well done.

But do you think we could include a german translation package. I'm not very experienced in coding, but if you tell which words are needed to be translated then I could post them and you could put them into the right place.

I have a problem under Ubuntu Hardy.
Synaptic starts without admin privilegs,
and "kttsmgr" didn't start at all.

All fine with the standard gnome menue.
But with the vista-thing those problems happens. :(

PS.:
I've installed it with the .deb packet.

Its 1.08 beta.

The Synaptics problem only appears under
"systemwerkzeuge" (systemtools in english i think) -> "synaptc-paketverwaltung" icon.

When i start it with "package manager" on the right side of the Vista Menue it works fine....

If you go to Alacarte (your menu editor), and right click on synaptic under system tools, what command is it executing?

hola, instale el menu vista pero no mas instalarlo se me quedo pillado al intentar cambiar el logo, lo desintale y al intentar instalarlo otra vez no me dejo, mas tarde puede instalarlo pero entonces me salia en vez del menu puntos blancos. Y ahora cuando lo intento poner me sale este error «OAFIID:GNOME_VistaMenu». arriba ya lo solucionasteis pero no entendi como lo hicisteis por que no hablo ingles..:S

What distribution (i.e Ubuntu, Fedora, Redhat etc) are you using?

Have you installed the required dependency packages?

What is the output of running Vista_Menu.py run-in-window from a terminal?

I don't speak spanish much so please keep it simple then I can understand! =)
