Description:

An elegant and functional menu with many themes, not just vista.
Currently supported languages:
English, Czech, French, Spanish, Portuguese

THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH UBUNTU 8.10 Intrepid Ibex
The lightweight Vista Menu implementation is compatible.

I may work on this in future, but if any python programmers out there want to take this over and improve it, please email me for the latest source.

INSTALLATION

-Install Dependencies:

sudo apt-get install python2.5 python-xdg python-cairo python-gconf python-xlib deskbar

-Download package from this page
-Extract to your desktop, and double click on the installer inside
-Right click on the gnome panel, and go to 'add to panel' and select vista menu

We need people to help make new themes and translate the menu to new languages! Please send me a message if you can help.

i dont know if this is already implemented but the easiest way to get translations is to create a launchpad project , i did it with screenlets and ts pretty simple to get translations that way

It's a problem with me needing to spend the time to figure out how to do it in software, and it's not an easy task at that! Be patient and I'll get round to it eventually. Or use a GTK theme that already comes with a panel background, such as aero clone.

The search bar isn't selectable, just type away and your text will go in it. The menu contents don't match because of programs installed under other desktop environments, such as KDE. This is an issue with the python XDG backend.

Hi!

This is very nice, but it would be nice imho to give it a different name and add a more "Linux/Gnome" theme by default, but based on the vista menu. What do you think?

_ go in “your theme / panel” and to replace the file “panel-bg.png” by the panel which you want.

french: le probleme c'est que dans theme/panel j'ai plusieurs panel-bg.
your menu is fantastic i have just a little bug when i edit menu i change something after i remove and i reselect start menu to apply changes but nothing change.
i'll see a next release soon i hope.

When using the Vista/Ubuntu circle the top part goes away sometimes or displays somewhere else on the screen. Also the search bar is slow when you type, text comes in up to 5 seconds after you type. Other then that the menu is great.
