In icon view, things sometimes get a little bit cluttered and confusing in nautilus. I thought it would be helpful to (optionally) visually separate files and folders to make navigation easier.

Hi, would be a dream to have this in next realse and ould also be nice to have navigation mode enabled by default!

yeah, also they should have "tree view" like behavior - ie, you can collapse and expand either the folder or files view.

in fact, why not go a step further and have

"folders"
"audio"
"video"
"documents"
"plain text"

etc. etc. all categorised and expandable.

Dolphin actually has that option.

I too think it looks very cool on the mockups, but it gets very crowded even with just a few files in one directory.

Look at my home-dir for example:
