Updated:  Oct 23 2013

Description:

The original Comix Cursors.

X11 mouse theme with a comics feeling.
The package comes with 12 different mouse themes for X11.
6 colors (black, blue, green, orange, red and white)
2 different weights (slim and normal)

From version 0.8 on the cursors are 'multisize', meaning that you don't need to install one theme for each size, but only one theme, and chose the size in the cursor theme selection dialog.

The full installation also includes left-handed themes, you can choose whatever you prefer from the downloads below.

The cursors are named according to the freedesktop.org cursor naming convention, compatibility and hash cursor names are linked. In addition to the original cursor pack left-handed and opaque versions are still available here.

Please read the README and INSTALL files provided in the source package for installation and packaging instructions, as well as some hints on various issues.

"Vast" versions for visually impaired can be downloaded here: http://www.limitland.de/comixcursors.html . There are links for windows ports by firstfooter, teft and Jus on that page as well.

If you don't like the "hair" line for the text-, vertical-text- and crosshair-cursors, you can download the "NOHAIR"-sources below and replace the source files "text.svg", "vertical-text.svg" and "crosshair.svg" sources in the svg/LeftHanded and svg/RightHanded source-directories and build your cursors. These cursors might look better to you e.g. on dark backgrounds.

GNOME USERS:
------------
Ben has investigated how to configure the cursor size:

* Gnome supports multiple cursor sizes in one cursor theme, but only
distinct sizes: 16, 24, 32, and 48 pixels.

There is no known Gnome 3 application for setting the size of the mouse
cursor. You need to set the desired size in pixels as the value of the
DConf setting ‘org.gnome.desktop.interface.cursor-size’. You can use
‘dconf-editor’ (from the ‘dconf-tools’ package) or ‘gsettings’ to change
DConf settings.

ComixCursors come in sizes 32, 40, 48 and 64.

Have fun.

 big yellow hand bug

by israelihawk on: Sep 22 2009

Score 50%

disclaimer: this is the BEST cursor theme IMHO and i've been using it for 3 years now..

after noticing a red color was added to the cursors, i tried it, and i really like it.

one small issue is when pressing (in order to drag) the title bar. when done, a BIG yellow hand replaced the normal red hand (in my case, a small red hand).

in all other colors -- no such bug.

thanks in advance.. :)

Happens to me too with the blue-small set. I get a huge black hand.

Only the open hand does this. For example, in google maps the hand is always the huge black hand when hovering over the map. But when I click to drag around, it is the normal sized small blue clenched hand.

 Bad design issue

by FredWP on: Oct 8 2009

The only thing I dislike, is the way it is installed. For each size, there is a new theme.

Removing these mouse icons is almost a lost cause, there are so many. If you're on a slower netbook like I am, it will take you a while.

Would it be possible to just do a cursor per color, and then adjust the size with the bar?

Hi FredWP,
yes that is possible and X11 mouse cursors are actually ment to be combined like that. And it is possible to do this in gnome, but not in KDE - so I could not implement it.

 firefox and gtk apps

by Camberwell on: Oct 17 2009

Hi there,

I was having an issue with the cursors not working in firefox and other gtk apps

so what I did was create a file ~/.gtkrc-2.0

and added...

gtk-cursor-theme-name="Comix Cursor original White Regular Bold"

obviously you would put your own theme in there, but thats fixed it for me

I hope that helps anyone else having this issue

Martin

 cursor disappearing

by dispenser on: Oct 27 2009

Everything is great except that my cursor will disappear if I move the mouse wheel and if I bright up the right click menu or open any menu really there is an artifact left behind on the screen where the pointer was.

Anyone know how I might fix this?
