Could you perhaps compile a short guide on how you acheived this look, or perhaps the components you used to make it look that way. It looks really nice!

 Why concept?

First, I was wondering what tools you used to make this concept? Inkscape or AI 11? The MC theme was made in AI 11 for sure, but what about the rest? And what operating system did you make it in? It looks like OSX judging by the quality of the fonts.

Second, I don't understand why this is a concept. It looks like little more than a theme with a modified toolbar. I don't see anything huge that is done in this concept that can't be done by theme/engine makers right now. Sure, the toolbar is collapsed, but that can actually be a detriment. I suggest showing how the collapsed toolbar is affected by large (12-14 pt) fonts.

I like it so far, but I'll hold out judgement until you show more of the flexibility of your concept. I'm especially anxious to see a dark theme, rather than these blinding-white themes that are so prevalent.

Are you serious? If something like this is possible, why aren't there any "real" things out like this? I really hope that what you say is true,... About Ai 11 you're right, It's one of the few apps i can't let go (I run it on mac but also on win, my dream is that the cs suite will work just as well under linux on a day... Inkscape also does the job for less complex stuff, but for these and the comming designs i will continue working with Ai 11) More themes will come soon... and ideas are still welcome

Lack of creativity? Maybe nobody thought of it until you did? Maybe nobody had the time to implement it? God knows that there are dozens of people making tiny modifications to Clearlooks and releasing them, and dozens more making the next OSX theme. I bet there are only a small handful of people that work on making truely new and different kinds of themes, and even fewer people working on new engines or modifying old ones to suit their needs. Most of the themes here are ugly, perpetually half-finished, compilations of different MC and GTK themes put together and renamed, or just trying to mimic OSX once more. People that make a new theme that is of any quality are truely rare. And you can tell who they are by all the people following behind with their slightly modified versions :)

So be prepared for riches and glory if you make this theme a reality.

This is beautiful. Now if only we could get someone to make this! Maybe if this idea gets popular enough, the Gnome devs will consider programming the ability to create such a gorgeous panel. Bravo!

Well, it's beautiful and all but I don't like it. I want a desktop that focuses on functionallity, NOT looks. I don't get it.

(Excuse my bad english)

Anyone know where I can find some documentation on GTK Engines? I want to have a quick go at writing one, possibly see how much of this idea I can write into one :)
