Description:

** Latest Updates: Create GTK themes, support latest Unity, GNOME/GTK 3.8, Cinnamon 1.8, app support for LXDE, new icons/themes, various improvements, fixes **

zonColor Themes Pack is a complete set of simple yet beautiful, elegant themes for GTK-based Linux desktop, aimed to bring freedom in theme customizations particularly color customizations so that users can easily use/apply their very own color combination/color palette/color scheme for the themes.

zonColor is more than just a theme collection; the themes are more like theme templates. They have been designed with customization in mind especially their colors. zonColor themes are using flexible color definitions that can be changed and applied easily without having to modify theme codes/materials directly.

Not only the color of basic/common items (such as base, bg, or selected item in GTK themes and folder icons in icon themes), color definition can be assigned separately for many specific theme\'s elements, such as header-menubar-toolbar-popu-menu-etc in GTK themes, action-folder-display type icons, and even the color of wallpaper image!

Currently, GTK themes, icon themes, wallpapers, "theme-sets" (metatheme, mix-and-match of theme components) and some other theme-related utilities and also simple app are provided in this pack.

To install, you can use installation launcher/script provided.

Alternatively, you can always install/use/enable themes usual way (note that this will install themes only, without customization feature/app):
Extract downloaded archive ===> Browse 'zoncolor' folder within the extracted folder ===> Copy gtk-themes into ~/.themes, icon-themes into ~/.icons, wallpapers to wherever location ===> Use an appearance utility app (i.e. GNOME Tweak Tool) to enable.

Please see README files before using this pack.

After installing the themes I was unable to use any of the previously installed themes or icons via the gnome tweak tool. I purged everything and may revisit the themes later when find out why this happened.

so this broke something so badly that even after a fresh, brand new install, things are still not working right. How does this happen?

Ok, The only way I foun to get my old themes working again is by selecting them through Ubuntu Tweak.
Nothing else works, But ubuntu tweak got me my old theme back, so thats all i care about. lol :)

I hunted down all the folders and removed them along with the installation script. My theme preferences seemed to be completely hijacked after installing these themes .

Could you be more specific on how this hijacked other theme preferences? This pack shouldnt touch any other themes or themes preferences. I can switch between zoncolor theme to another theme (zukitwo for example, that's what i'm using right now) using gnome tweak tool without problem with zoncolor themes/app installed.

As written earlier I was unable use any previously installed themes or icons including defaults via the Gnome Tweak Tool.

After using the installation script I could only use Zon themes and icons so I removed them.

Thanks for trying it out, and really sorry for inconvenience. From your information, I can't really figure out what exactly the cause of the problems is (I never encounter problem like you said on systems/environment that i have tested (Debian/Ubuntu/Mint)), but i'll recheck the codes entirely, see if i have to fix something or make it better. Just to let you know, you can always install the themes manually without using any script if you want.

Just wanted to let you know..
The problems I was experiencing were a little different than the problems Dax had.
He said that he could not get any of his icons or themes to work after, But I only experienced the problem with it messing a few thems up, But I was still abble to switch back my icons and back to ambiance theme.
I still really love the work you've done here and I appreciate it.
I hope to get to use it again one day, once ironed out.lol :)

If your 'problem' was the color used in a customized color scheme, that was not problem.
Yes, it affects colors of other GTK themes, but you can change or reset using tools like dconf-editor or gconf-editor or xfconf editor.

This pack brings back a feature available in the old GNOME 2's Appearance Preferences into GNOME 3 session, that lets you customize color scheme without changing theme codes directly. GTK themes in this pack take advantage of this feature, and fully support it.

Oh, thanks to TiZ (see his comment on this page: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=156189&forumpage=0) for his info that Xfce 4.10 now support GTK color scheme too, just like in GNOME.
And FYI, Cinnamon team is also planning to add configurable color scheme support in their next releases. See this page: https://github.com/linuxmint/Roadmap#cinnamon-18

The customized GTK color scheme is stored as value in "gtk-color-scheme" setting in gnome's gsettings or gconf or xfconf (rather than changing the theme codes directly and/or recreate a new theme), that can be easily changed using tools like dconf-editor or gconf-editor, or appearance preferences if available.

Like I said in previous comment, you need to RESET color scheme first before switching to other themes (since most GTK themes available today do not support color customization). You can do it by using reset utility provided, or you can do it manually using tools as said above.

And, if you don't want customization, simply don't use any customization tools provided in this pack; just use the themes in "normal" way (see description above).

For those having problems switching back to other themes after installing this theme pack, what desktop(s) are yuns using? Are those of you having problems using GNOME, Unity, Cinnamon, Mate, Xfce, LXDE, one of the WMs...?

The reason I ask is I'm using Xfce and would like to download this theme pack. But after reading comments about these themes hijacking everyone's other themes, I decided to not do so until I see if any of my fellow Xfce users have reported that this theme pack screws up Xfce, and if it does, then this is obviously a HUGE deal-breaker.

When it comes to Xfce, if you set a color scheme, it will be used on any GTK theme you select, and there's no facility in the settings programs to mess with the color schemes. So if you want to stop using zonColor, you'll need to use the xfconf editor to unset xsettings/Gtk/ColorScheme.

Thanks for replying.
GTK color scheme setting in Xfce is stored in "/Gtk/ColorScheme" property (you can create one if it doesn't exist) in "xsettings" channel:
xsettings ==> Gtk ==> ColorScheme
You can access it by running "xfce4-settings-editor".
