 Unity Panel - Window Title Bar

 by sadi on: Nov 29 2012

Score 50%

Under Ubuntu Unity, when you maximize a window, Unity panel assumes a dual function: window title bar and menu bar. And it's located immediately above the toolbar.
However, these bars no longer look the same together as in normal windows: their background colors are very different with no smooth transition.

I think this superb theme will look much better if this issue is resolved (e.g. with a slightly darker unity panel?) as, for example, in the Greybird theme.

The solution I've finally found:

1) Open the file "gtk-apps.css"
2) Cut the whole "Unity" section (top 41 lines), paste into a new file, and save it as "gtk-unity.css"
3) Delete the whole "Gnome Panel" section (between Nautilus and Gnome Terminal sections)
4) Save and exit
5) Open the files "gtk-main-css" and "gtk-main-dark.css" and insert "@import url("gtk-unity.css");" as a new line at the end of each, and then save and exit

This ensures a smooth and seamless transition between Ubuntu's Unity Panel and maximized applications' menu/toolbar.

SHORTER VERSION:
----------------
1) Open the file "gtk-apps.css"
2) Delete the whole "Gnome Panel" section (between Nautilus and Gnome Terminal sections)
3) Save and exit

 hover effect in nautilus sidebar

 by sadi on: Dec 13 2012

To add a hover effect to Nautilus sidebar, you can insert these lines into Nautilus section in "gtk-apps.css" file:

NautilusWindow .sidebar row:hover {
background-color: shade (@sidebar_selected_bg_color, 1.1);
color: shade (@sidebar_fg_color, 1.1);
text-shadow: 1px 1px shade (@theme_bg_color, 1.1);
}

 lag

The theme is beautiful, but please fix the theme lag. When switching from a window to another one... it takes ages before the theme is updated. And it's not done at once either: some parts are painted before others... it looks terrible!

Is there a way to have a dark top panel in unity? I know the screenshot above is gnome3, which looks great, I'm trying to duplicate that in unity.
Am I just missing something?

 nemo compatibility

Thank you for a great theme accompanying a great icon theme.

One request (which I hope isn't a duplicate of some sort): could you perhaps provide compatibility for Nemo, Cinnamon's file manager? Being a continuation of Nautilus 3.4, it still has a toolbar which Faience now displays white(-ish). I know from other themes it's possible to support both properly and I see proper Faience toolbars in gedit for example, but in my limited knowledge I've not been able to fix it myself.

Thanks for the consideration.

 Panel item highlight

Hi, I like your theme very much, especially the rounded highlight when item on the top panel is selected. May I know which line of code is responsible for it? Thanks.

Really thanks for your reply, but I am using Unity. May I know the lines in Unity as well? I saw you using some image files to draw the border, but I couldn't find the corresponding image in gtk-3.0 folder. Are you using image file also in Unity?
