My favorite text editor is medit.
I have combined Nitrux text editor icons with medit icon to adapt it to this fantastic icon theme:

 Folder colors

by sadi on: May 1 2013

Score 63%

Folder icons have changed from brown to blue and now (3.0.3) to dark grey, each very beautiful on its own.
But I think it might perhaps be good idea to include the previous versions of all folder icons as alternatives together with a simple script to replace them.
Although I personally find myself simply following your good artistic choice each time ;-)
Thanks a lot for your high quality work!

Like AwOkeN?

I had considered that but ultimately older folders are just not going to fit with the rest of the icons.

Thanks for the support!.

I don't know which is easier: a script like the one in AwOkeN (to customize colors in all folder icons only?) or a simpler script to change all folder icons with alternative ones stored in a special sub-folder.
If simply including previous versions in alternative sub-folders wouldn't fit with the rest, then I don't know if it's relatively easy to produce one or two alternatives in other colors. But when I personally tried to do something like this in GIMP, I found that it's very very difficult and even impossible for me as an ordinary user ;-)
I don't know, perhaps "reshaping" the previous folder icons might be easier than "recoloring" the current folder icons...

The simpler would be a simple script to pick a folder out of a given selection .

Including other sub-styles didn't work before hence why I dropped that idea and just focused on 2 main styles. I can make other folders that's not really the problem it's just
it becomes even more work to handle to maintain all this variants, I can make them but someone else has to maintain them, that is add more icons to them, report missing ones to us, etc.

The script part is nothing compared to the artistic work required, and I fully understand you focusing on 2 main styles at the moment.

I see that the present icon set already includes folder icons in several other colors. I think what's needed is only using these folder icons in other colors and creating a number of additional ones (e.g. for documents, pictures, search, etc.) combining these plain folder icons with the designs already used in the theme, merely changing their color, and leaving all the other non-folder-related icons as they are.

This involves less work than creating another standalone style, although it still requires considerable work (if I had a little artistic talent I would be happy to offer help in this).

So, let's hope that either you'll be able to dedicate a little more time for this or someone else will be able to do it :-)

Simple command to change folder colors in an automated way (see my comment to adapt action and status icons to dark theme for a concrete example):

sed -i 's|original_hex_colour_code|intended_hex_colour_code|g' /path/to/folder/icons/*

To find out the hex code of the currently used folder colour simply open the svg file in your favourite text editor and compare the code found in the fill elements to codes available online, e.g. http://www.colorhexa.com.
Since the icons were made in inkscape, the topmost fill element generally refers to the canvas, which was white (hex code #ffffff) but is now transparent (which is not achieved by changing the colour but changing the opacity of the element, I believe). You hence want to look at the hex codes for the following fill elements.

I hope that makes your life easier!

 NITRUX-Blue

Here's an amateur attempt to create a retro variation of NITRUX by merely keeping former folder icons and using the current NITRUX icon theme for all the rest; plus my preferred way of using monochrome icons in Unity Panel:

 dark themes

I love your work!
However (there is always a 'however' or a 'but') would it be possible to make a version of the panel icons that fit dark themes, or alternatively, make the clear-all 2.x version available again?
A dark theme is a questionable choice to begin with, but this nuthead would much appreciate it and my fellow dungeon dwellers (I work mostly in a darkroom) would surely do so as well.

An add-on which has support for dark panels is available for purchase however it's only available in deviantART.

I figured out a way to adapt the icons for a dark theme. The following two command search all svg files in the specified paths and replace grey and black hex colour codes with the white colour code.

sudo sed -i 's|#1a1a1a|#ffffff|g;s|#151719|#ffffff|g;s|#100f0d|#ffffff|g;s|#010101|#ffffff|g' /usr/share/icons/NITRUX/actions/scalable/*

sudo sed -i 's|#1a1a1a|#ffffff|g' /usr/share/icons/NITRUX/status/scalable/*

Sorry, just figured out that it is you that posted the dark-adapted themes on deviant art and not somebody piggy-backing on your great work. I don't see an option to remove my posts, but feel free to do so if they hurt your business and you, as an admin, are able to do so.
