CPU usage, Ram usage and Nautilus very slow

by socialinux on: Dec 19 2012

Score 50%

I always liked this set of icons. However, I noted that installing these latest versions cpu usage is increasing and this did not happen with previous versions. With this set of icons nautilus open very late, and uses much cpu than any other icons themes. I would like to show you what I mean with two screenshots I made using nitrux and faience as icons. As you can see, the difference is remarkable and I wonder if it's due to a bug or the weight of the icons. What do you think?
Of course my benchmark is a highly empirical and rough. Known to be the same problems installing the theme on ubuntu 12.10 unity, gnome shell and Fedora 17. Thank you for your good work.

I'm not able to reproduce this, my CPU usage doesn't spike like yours with Nitrux or with other Icons, also my RAM does not increase. It only changes when changing Icons (because the system loads them), I also can't notice a lag, slowdown or anything sluggish on my end. I've edited some icons that were too big in size (they're usually less than 10kb, some were almost 1mb, presumably because of the many times I redrawn them).

I'll update the Icons with these I've changed however make sure that first you download them from here instead of using the PPAs,

 missing icon

 by pulpo69 on: Dec 27 2012

Score 50%

in nitrux buttons is at least one icon missing.
gnome journal (zeitgeist) isn't there.
in german it's called Tagebuch über Aktivitäten.
(part of gnome 3.6 and 3.4 too i believe).

It's a beautiful icon set!

i've only nitrux-buttons installed, cause i like it
more than nitrux (it's more simple and better for me (bad eyes)). so i don't know if the zeit geist icon is missing in nitrux too.

Could you please add the drag and drop feature for this icon package for the linux distros? Preferably for linux mint 14.1 into its feature theme box? Using the Mate desktop, its a gnome 2 branch. Thank you.

On Linux Mint using Mate you can go into the appearance options and just drag and drop in your .tar gz icon folder for the icons to launch. Its in the "appearance preferences". Other icon packages work this way. The Faenza icon package launches like that. Yours give a "nitrux_os_icons_by_deviantn7k1-d4utllr.7z" does not appear to be a valid theme." Error installing the selecting file.

While I know how to install packages to run from the CLI, other novice users will not. With android as popular as it is, and others looking into development up in the XDA forums and seeking to using linux mint as their development tool on workstations, this will help.

Thanks for the quick response. :)

Right, well there's totally no need to do that really. You just extract the file and place it's contents it in the correct folder, no fiddling, no installing, not anything complicated. Just move the folders to their correspondent locations and select the theme. And what the Appearance windows does by the way, is just that: Extracts the tar.gz contents to the .icons folder.

 status icons color

 by hunter75 on: Jan 16 2013

new icons in 2.4A are great!
request: would be possible to release the same theme but with white status icons?
or including a script to let end-user select the color of status icons (and, why not, folders too)?
The background color of my panel is black and black status icons are not visible.

Thanks,

I'm afraid that adding a script for the user to change something won't be possible, it has been decided that the folders (and status icons) will retain their current colors and no further changes will happen to them as it's been planned to port the icons over other platforms and we want to have a uniform look across them.

You can however edit them and change them to suit your needs, this can be easily done with Inkscape as they're supplied as SVG files.
