Description:

These themes started as a project to create a colourful, GTK3-compatible theme set reminiscent of Shiki-Colors. Since I have no real GTK2 or GTK3 theme design or creation experience, I borrowed a well-designed theme I had been using since I started using GNOME 3, Zukitwo-Dark, and tweaked it until it resembled Shiki-Colors while retaining the Zukitwo look and feel.

This theme set contains GTK2, GTK3, GNOME Shell and Cinnamon themes in all 7 colours from Shiki-Colors (Brave, Dust, Human, Illustrious, Noble, Wine and Wise), as well as colour-neutral GNOME Shell and Cinnamon themes (Zukitwo-Colors) and Metacity/Mutter and XFWM themes for Dust (Zukitwo-Dust) and the rest (Zukitwo-Colors). (Zukitwo-Dust has separate Metacity/Mutter and XFWM themes as part of its colour-scheme.)

I recommend using the GNOME-Colors icons themes with this theme set, since these themes were created with the intention of being a GTK3-compatible alternative to Shiki-Colors, and fit very well with the corresponding icon themes.

NOTE: The GTK3 and GNOME Shell themes require GNOME/GTK 3.4 and Unico 1.0.2 to work correctly. These themes will not work correctly with GNOME/GTK 3.6 and will not be updated to work with them, due to GTK 3.6 requiring image assets for styling many elements.

Good job with this. How many (and which) colors did you do? I'd download it and find out, but I'm away from my personal computer right now.

Every colour that existed for Shiki-Colors, so 7:
- Brave (Blue)
- Dust (Brown w/ light brown window background and brown title bar)
- Human (Orange)
- Illustrious (Pink)
- Noble (Purple)
- Wine (Red)
- Wise (Green)

Since the only difference between the themes is the colour scheme, it wasn't hard to do all 7 colours.

Nice! I was going to do the same thing to compliment my gnome-shell theme WIP but now I can just tweak it to work with this! I'll put up a link to this on my WIP on deviantart when I get home...

Heh, cool, thanks! I hope your Shell theme turns out nicely. Let me know how it goes! I could probably even do some beta testing for ya if you want once it reaches that stage...

It initially started as an attempt to create a GTK3 compatible theme for Shiki-Colors but since I found it very difficult to make the GTK3 theme match the GTK2 theme very closely I decided it would be easier just to make Zukitwo resemble Shiki-Colors as closely as I could get it.

I'm sure it could be even closer but I'd rather leave it where it is, still looking and feeling like Zukitwo, but colourful like Shiki-Colors.

This is great. I absolutely love the Shiki themes. I'm actually creating matching gtk3 themes for Shiki colors, using only the Adwaita engine(basically a learning exercise), and I'm very close to the original. You might want to have a look when I release them :)

Which black bar on the up side of what..? Do you mean the GNOME Shell panel at the top of the screen? If that's what you're talking about, it would be because the theme only changes the appearance of the windows and the title bar. You need to change the Shell theme separately with whatever theme you want to use. My themes go well with the Prismas and the Zukitwo Shell themes.

If you're talking about the title bar not changing, you need to reload the Shell for that change to take effect, and you need to make sure you've set up to use the Zukitwo-Colors-Metacity window frame that's part of the theme package.

What are you using to change the theme, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm really enjoying these themes. What's strange is I never used Shiki-Colors much in the past, but I was well aware of them. As a fan of Zukitwo, it's easy for me to really dig these variants you have here. One thing I like in these themes is the darker font color than what Zukitwo has by default. I always felt Zukitwo was a bit washed out and would always edit the hex value to make the color darker. To my surprise, these themes had it. Now the only thing I'm semi frustrated about is... which color variant do I use?! Decisions decisions...

When I was making these varients on Zukitwo-Dark I still had the Shiki-Colors themes installed from when I was still using GNOME 2. All I had to do was take the colour values from those themes and port them to Zukitwo-Dark's GTK2 and GTK3 themes. It just happens that Shiki-Colors used a darker text font than Zukitwo-Dark does. I also altered the menu colour scheme slightly to highlight the selected menubar item with the selected background colour of the theme (the way Shiki-Colors does) rather than the way Zukitwo-Dark does it. All in all I think it's about as close a resemblance to Shiki-Colors as I could get it while still keeping the Zukitwo look and feel.

As for what theme to use... I usually try to pick one that fits with the colours of the background wallpaper I'm using. I don't know if that'll help you make up your mind though.
