Hy there.

-----
Instalación y notas en español: http://seekngeek.blogspot.com/
-----
Why I did this?

Since LibreOffice icons are really ugly and does NOT match with ANY MODERN desktop environment, I thought that making a mod using minimal style (based on Faenza monochrome icons only) could be usefull for custom fans.
This is originally made for Linux sistems (I tested in Ubuntu only) but I supose that should work in other platforms.
Based and inspired on Kado20es work (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=libreoffice#/d3ivxbc), I modified some faenza icons, and adapted them to libreoffice functions. All credits go to Faenza creators. Only minimal mods and collages made to that icons in this theme.
Hope you like it. This is the first version. L.O. Calc is in progress.
Cheers!
Warning: the installation will temporary disable an existent style of LibreOffice (Crystal, by default) because the mod is based on one of the five avalaible themes. Sadly, no additional styles can be added to libreoffice, so I have to sacrifice one of the them in order to make the mod work. My favourites were human and tango... and allways hated Crystal, so my choice was just wipe it out by default :P

Note1: Only big icons will work properly, for now. ;)

How to install (UBUNTU ONLY) V2:

..:: IF YOU HAVE DEFAULT LIBREOFFICE (3.2) OR A PPA VERSION OF LIBREOFFICE (3.3) follow this::..

1) Close Libreoffice.
2) Open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-crystal

Note: super user password required. This will install the theme that will be modified.

3) Once install finished, download the file puclished in here.

4) Copy the file to your Home folder. For example: /home/rho/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip

5) rename the file to images_crystal.zip in your home folder.

6) you can run the following command to do that:

mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images_crystal.zip

7) Now backup the original Crystal theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:

sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_crystal.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_cristal.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images_crystal.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_crystal.zip

Note: super user password required. This will replace the original theme by the mod.

8) Open Libreoffice. Change icon theme from Options-view menu. Choose "Crystal" theme to apply the Faenza Style.

Note2: As I said, this mod sacrifices the Crystal theme. Sorry. Original Crystal theme will be backed up in the L.O. system folders as "images_cristal.orig.zip", and can not be used while this mod is active. If you want your Crystal style back, just erase the file named "/usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_crystal.zip" and rename the former into the original name.

-------------------

...if you want to change the theme to be replaced, do this:

...:::Replacing Oxygen:::... (replace the above instructions for this ones:)

2) Open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-oxygen
6) run:
mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images_oxygen.zip
7) Now backup the original Oxygen theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:
sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_oxygen.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_oxygen.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images_oxygen.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_oxygen.zip

...:::Replacing Human:::... (replace the above instructions for this ones:)

2) Open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-human

6) run:

mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images_human.zip

7) Now backup the original human theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:

sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_human.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_human.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images_human.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_human.zip

...:::Replacing Tango:::... (replace the above instructions for this ones:)

2) Open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-tango

6) run:

mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images_tango.zip

7) Now backup the original tango theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:

sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_tango.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_tango.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images_tango.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_tango.zip

...:::Replacing Galaxy:::... (replace the above instructions for this ones:)

2) Open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-galaxy

6) run:

mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images.zip

7) Now backup the original galaxy theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:

sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images.zip

..:: IF YOU HAVE A MANUAL INSTALL OF LIBREOFFICE (3.3.+ OR 3.4+) CHANGE THE FOLLOWING STEPS::..
(note: assuming that you installed by .deb available in LO web. If you compiled the software, you'll probably know that you have to replace the install dir used in this tutorials for the one that you are using)
(note2: this will replace the default theme, because I assume that you didn't installed other themes / you couldn't install other themes)

Warning: this will modify the original “Galaxy theme”. Please follow this instructions. After download in your home folder...

6) run:

mv ~/libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ~/images.zip

For LibreOffice 3.4
7) Backup the original theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:

sudo mv /opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/config/images.zip /opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/config/images_cristal.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images.zip /opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/config/images.zip
Note: super user password required. This will replace the original theme by the mod.

For LibreOffice 3.3 (no ppa version, only via .deb@web or manual .tar.gz install)
7) Backup the original theme and apply the mod by introducing this in a terminal:
sudo mv /opt/libreoffice3.3/basis3.3/share/config/images.zip /opt/libreoffice3.3/basis3.3/share/config/images_cristal.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images.zip /opt/libreoffice3.3/basis3.3/share/config/images.zip
Note: super user password required. This will replace the original theme by the mod.

Fixed.

Update the link, now downloads from dropbox and not from UbuntuOne.

However, I recommend to follow the instructions above, or at least check them so you will know what to do with the .zip file.

Thanks for comment and downloading!

 Looks promising

And I can't wait to be able to test it. I installed LO from the debs provided by LO guys cause I wanted the newest 3.4.1 release which is not available in Ubuntu repos yet (including the LO PPA). Hence I can't install libreoffice-style-crystal as that involves installing the dependiences: older LO version from Ubuntu repo and I don't want it. Hopefully Ubuntu repos or at least PPA will be updated soon.

Yeap. Actually, I couldnt find an "elegant" wayout for that problem.
However, I think you can install it. I dont how much you know about Linux, but if you installed the bleeding edge version of LO, I will asume you'll understand me.
Just do this: instead of replacing crystal theme, apply the mod to the orginal default theme. First, DO A BACKUP. The file is named "images.zip" and it is located in a similar path that in the instructions above. Will need super user, rename it as images_back.zip or something. Then, download the file posted, and put it in to the LO folder, naming it as "images.zip".
Of course, if you want to change the theme back, you will have to do it manually.
Hope it helps!

Hey, thanks for your reply. I've managed to set this up in much easier way.

However before you try to change anything you really have to:
1) make sure where to place the theme (it's not necessarily the location you provided).
2) make sure what theme is your LO currently using (it's not necessarily crystal)

RE 1) You mentioned '/usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/' - that could be in your case.
In my case it's '/opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/config'.
Different LO version, installed from non-distro specific packages but provided by LO guys = different installation directory + I bet lots of other different things (and btw this is what I hate about LO - in original branding they don't care about LSB specification at all)

RE 2) in my case LO was usign oxygen icons by default, not crystal.

So, what I did was:
1) cd /opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/config
2) sudo mv images_oxygen.zip images_oxygen-bkp.zip
3) sudo mv /<some dir>/../libreoffice_faenzaMOD.zip ./images_oxygen.zip

finally: I run LO, new icons work like a charm.

Thanks again for sharing your excellent work but please correct your instructions to reflect the different cases. This is really important. BTW I faved this on DA :)

Hey, no worries mate. IMO anyone who uses OS software and wants it being improved should contribute to it at least by testing and submitting bug reports. It's a duty, not a favor. And anyone who doesn't agree with my statement should be shot in the head! LOL :)

Getting back to our subject, I think that installing crystal or any other icon set in order to install yours is not required.
In every LO installation there must be at least one set already in place. In mine there were four: images_crystal (yes, it was already there), ..-oxygen, ..-hicontrast (brrr.. that's probably the ugliest thing I've ever seen) and images-tango.
You just need to find out which set is your LO currently using. It may depend on what distro are you on, where did you get LO from (I bet many folks use distro-independent versions), etc.
Probably your choice of desktop environment matters as well. In GNOME I guess LO would choose tango as default. I'm on KDE and probably that's why it chose oxygen, which btw was a bad shot. I love KDE but I really detest the default branding including icons, plasma theme etc. My desktop look pretty much like this one: http://linuxfever.deviantart.com/art/Reflektions-KDE4-v1-0-134739465 - so you cam see why I like your icons so much, they fit to my setup very well..

Another step is to find out where is your LO installed or more precisely - where are the icon sets placed. So we know they may be in '/opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/config' or '/usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/' or.. hopefully nowhere else.
Once you've got that all you know which set is to be replaced and where.

BTW this all convince me even more how badly is LO designed in some areas. Unless I'm not aware of something, why there's no option to switch between installed sets in LO settings? So you could put in place as many themes as you like and then have a simple interface to choose between? Sure you can dig it out in some config file but I don't fancy do it. Simply it's not the right way for such type of application. If you wanna show off with your skills in Vi - you got plenty of system, server configs, etc. But for setting icons in office application? That's just wrong.

Sería posible sacrificar otro tema de iconos.? Reemplazando en la instalación "crystal" por 'Human, o Galaxy, o Tango' en: "sudo mv /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_crystal.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_cristal.orig.zip && sudo mv ~/images_crystal.zip /usr/share/libreoffice/basis-link/share/config/images_crystal.zip"
Gracias.

Would it be possible to sacrifice another icon theme.? Replacing in the installation "crystal" for 'Human, or Galaxy, or Tango' in: "sudo mv / usr / share / LibreOffice / basis-link / share / config / images_crystal.zip / usr / share / LibreOffice / basis-link / share / config / images_cristal.orig.zip & & sudo mv ~ / images_crystal.zip / usr / share / LibreOffice / basis-link / share / config / images_crystal.zip "
Thank you.

To be honest, I wanted to wipe out Galaxy style, but Im not sure yet what the name of the package is in LO folder. In the next updates I promess to put all the replacement alternatives, so you can choose the style to sacrifise.

Thank you!!! To be honest... there is almost no credit for me. The hardest hork was to find the icons to replace, since the L-O icon folder is a MESS. Hope that L-O devs add the feature that enable install other styles than the classics, so customizer wouldnt have to replace a pre-existent package :)
