Description:

Vector icon theme for GTK. It can be used with XFce or GNOME. (I added logos for Ubuntu. Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Debian, SUSE, Fedora, Gentoo, Arch, Zenwalk, Mndriva and Mint)

I put all files into git repository on github https://github.com/jcubic/Clarity All errors and missing icons you can submit as issues there.

There are seven predefined themes (in five color schemes)

caeruleus - blue gradient
lux_caeruleus - glossy variant
canus - grey gradient(default)
dark_canus - dark grey gradient (for light themes)
luteus - orange gradient
violaceus - violet/pink gradient
lux_violaceus - glossy variant
viridis - green gradient

To install copy Clarity folder to ~/.icons

You can now use PPA to install clarity icons
 $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jcubic/jcubicppa && sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install clarity-icon-theme

To change color theme of icons:
  1. open folder ~/.icons/Clarity
2. double click change-theme
3. select the theme and click ok

If you install from PPA repository or deb package:
 $ gksu change-theme

or from terminal:
 $ cd ~/.icons/Clarity
$ make (name of the theme)

If you install from PPA repository or deb package:
 $ cd /usr/share/icons/Clarity
$ sudo make (name of the theme)

To change distributor logo

 $ cd ~/.icons/Clarity
$ make fedora

(available logos are: arch, debian, fedora, gentoo, gnome, kubuntu, madriva, mint, suse, ubuntu, xfce, xubuntu and zenwalk)

If you install from PPA repository or deb package:
 $ cd /usr/share/icons/Clarity
$ sudo make fedora

FURTHER CUSTOMIZATION

You can create your own colors for icons
by modifying or creating new template which is SVG file.

After creating new template in src/template_your_name.svg just double click change-theme and select your theme. (if you want to use make you must run configure first)

NOTE: You must have installed zenity, change-theme depend on it

 Keep up the good work

Looks beautiful, but it's not really usable yet, because there are still too many missing icons. The default icons look terible mixed with it. I'm looking forward to when it has an icon for every application in the repository.

Thank you

Take a look at files in src directory they start with template_ and they are svg files that have two markers {{TITLE}} and {{PATH}}. So you need to create file like this.

You can take existing icon modify it in Inkscape save it as clean svg (in template_???.svg file) and then put {{TITLE}} and {{PATH}} into righ place. {{PATH}} should be inside "d" attribute of the "path" element.

You can also use text editor to modify SVG file directly.

When you put that file in src directory you will be able to select it from change_theme script. If you want to use make instead you need to run ./configure.

 New version?

Do still create new versions of clarity? I've found missing links for USB drives for example.
Do you need some help to find all missing links?

I don't have much time to work on it, but if have links, that are missing, you can send them to me or add comment here. I'll add them to the package.

Also if you find other bugs or request an icon, I can add it too.

I have added some missing icosn by copy and paste from other icons of your theme. I think it looks good.

The only thing I can't change is, that the emblems are very bad to see on a folder, the emblems need a white border to see tme better.

Do want that I upload my changed theme somewhere? So you can compare and tell me if I did mistakes.

I will search for more missing links at the weekend and add a *.tar.gz at rapidshare with fixed links. I like your theme :)

I get email from gnome-look but this message is missing. You can fork icons on github add all your changes and create pull request. I'll check them, if they are fine I'll merge them, I added few icons to github that are missing in packages, if you merge your changes I create new packages so everybody get new versions. Here is the repo https://github.com/jcubic/Clarity, I would prefer if you fork and create pull request, but if you prefer to just upload those icons somewhere it will be fine, I still check them.

It is great to see that there are still some really simplistic and yet effective icon sets around. I had a nostalgic moment when I saw these icons. You should maintain this icon set for the years to come since it is very good and balanced presentation. Voted up. Have a nice day.

Hey, can you help?
I;ve been using clarity since you released it,
But just recently installed it in a fresh Ubuntu 13.04 laptop and when I click on change-theme, I only get the text editor. Nothing I normally do is working. Any ideas?
I have zenity installed. thanks

I use 13.04 and I uninstall Clarity and then install it again and change-theme is working normaly. It's something with Ubuntu. Try ask on http://askubuntu.com/ why script is not executing but opening in text editor.

BTW: you can always use make to change theme

sudo make <THEME>

or run from terminal

sudo bash ./change-theme
