Description:

VERSION 1.4.1
It has come to my attention that some older versions of the pixmap engine (like the one found in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) have a bug that causes severe visual glitches when transparency is used in menubars. If your menubars and panel indicators are messed up, go to the Fixes page of the Orta Settings Manager and check the option "Select this if your menus and panel have visual glitches". This will also remove transparency from the Gnome Menu Bar applet, so if you use this applet with the flat panel option to make the panel transparent, you are out of luck.

INSTALLATION :

Ubuntu PPA :

Please make absolutely sure you have removed any previous instances of the theme before installing via ppa.

To add the ppa and install the theme and the settings manager, type this on a terminal :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nikount/orta-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install orta-theme

To install the emerald decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-emerald-decorators

To install the Xfwm4 decorators :

sudo apt-get install orta-xfwm4-decorators

You can find the Orta Settings Manager under the Preferences category of your Main Menu.

Manual Installation :

Extract the extractme.tar.gz archive that you find inside the zip, to a folder of your choosing. Inside, you will find the theme (Orta.tar.gz) and additional decorators (Orta-Squared.tar.gz and Orta-Old.tar.gz) along with some folders. First, right click on OrtaSettingsManager.py and make sure that the "Allow executing file as program" option is checked. Run it and press the uninstall button to remove any old versions of Orta from your system. You can install the theme and decorators manually by dragging and dropping them to the Gnome Appearance Preferences window, or you can use the installer on the Orta Settings Manager (recommended if you want to install for all users including root). Now you can go through the various tabs of the Settings Manager and setup the theme according to your preferences. When you are done click the save button. Make sure you select another theme on the Appearance Preferences dialog that pops up, and then go back to Orta in order to apply your changes.

Leave the orta folder alone, it includes the Orta Settings Manager files .

Inside the Chromium folder, you will find a Chromium theme and different sizes of scrollbars to install.

Inside the Awn folder you will find an Avant Window Navigator lucido style. There are also 5 emerald themes inside the emerald folder.

LICENCE :

The pixmaps are licensed under the Creative Commons non commercial share alike license, and the code under GPL v3. I've also included the original xcf sources of the pixmaps so that anyone can easily modify the theme to his/hers preferences.

Changelog:

Fixes:

- Synaptic fix for gtk2-engines-pixbuf version 2.20 and older.

- Main menu icon size reverted to 22.

 panel's text color

Nice theme! But I see something strange. Dark panel uses dark text color instead of light one.

Not here it doesn't :P. Which distro and version are you using? A pic would also help.

I can sort of confirm this. But not all the things in the menu have dark text, just the "cardapio" menu applet. Using ubuntu 10.10.

Here's a screenshot of that and other few bugs I detected.

But overall, great improvements :D

That's a nice catch with the create launcher dialog, i had totally forgotten about it (it has created similar problems for my in the past). I will also have to install cardapio in order to fix it.

That's depressing... They are constantly changing and changing the gnome panel, making it a nightmare to support multiple versions of it. An Ubuntu Lucid user also has problems with the dark panel. Which gnome-panel version do you use? Is there is any light theme with a dark panel that you use and doesn't have this problem? I can't directly solve this as i am running Ubuntu Maverick, but another theme that works on Fedora might help me solve this indirectly.

Please goto were Orta is installed and open the gtkrc file you will find inside the gtk-2.0 folder. Scroll all the way to the bottom and add this
style "panel-label-colors"
{
fg[NORMAL] = "#e3e3e3"
fg[PRELIGHT] = "#ffffff"
fg[ACTIVE] = "#f0f0f0"
fg[SELECTED] = "#ffffff"
fg[INSENSITIVE] = "#777777"
}

widget "BonoboPlug*Label" style "panel-label-colors"
widget "Panel*Applet*Label" style "panel-label-colors"
widget "Panel*MenuBar*Label" style "panel-label-colors"

Does it fix the text colors?

No, this fix didn't change anything. I know one theme with dark panel which works fine for me. This is "A-New-Hope" theme.

 Nice theme but....

as you can see from the included screen shot, the Elementary options don't exactly work as they should in Ubuntu 10.10. There is a gap between the buttons on the location bar.

The styles for nautilus elementary are meant to be used with Nautilus-Elementary, a fork of the regular nautilus.

 squarish everywhere?

 by murlidhar on: Nov 15 2010

Score 50%

can you please provide an option to have square at all the places. right now the configurator only gives the option to opt for squares only in tabs.
the menubar and at other places it is still rounded which makes the theme not look in uniform.
hopefully you will consider my request.
awesome theme btw ...
has quickly become one of my fav gtk theme.
thanks a lot :)

You have version 0.95, version 0.96 doesn't have this bug. To confirm this, change from dark squared menu item to dark round menu item. If the problem goes away, just update your version of Orta, if not, let me know.

 Nautilus Problem

Hi,

First of all congratulations for your work. This theme is awesome.

I am using it, but i have a small problem. The LocationPathBar on Nautilus (elementary) is missing some images (the arrows, i think). Here's a screenshot:

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4733/screenshotra.png

What's wrong?

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and Nautilus Elementary.
