Description:

ABOUT

Hash Checker for Linux/Unix is small and useful tool for checking your downloads and other files with MD5, SHA1 and/or SHA256 hash. It comes with GUI completly translated in Croatian, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Romanian, Russian, Slovakian, Spanish and Traditional Chinese (it will be auto-picked according to your system language (defaults to english if there's no translation in your language, but also it allows you to change it to any other)).

DEPENDENCIES

zenity (for displaying GUI)
md5sum, sha1sum and sha256sum (most distros have them by default)
xdg-user-dirs-update (most distros have this by default)

HOW TO INSTALL/UNINSTALL

Just unpack, run 'Setup' script and follow the instructions.

USAGE

Using with Nautilus:
Right-click somewhere in Nautilus, go to Scripts > Check hash then browse to the file you want to check
or (to avoid browsing for a file)
Right-click on the file you want to check then go to Scripts > Check hash
and also you can do it by draging and droping a file you want to check onto Hash Checker's desktop icon
Using with Caja:
Right-click somewhere in Caja, go to Scripts > (Nautilus >) Check hash then browse to the file you want to check
or (to avoid browsing for a file)
Right-click on the file you want to check then go to Scripts > (Nautilus >) Check hash
and also you can do it by draging and droping a file you want to check onto Hash Checker's desktop icon
Using with any File Manager:
Click at the Hash Checker's desktop icon to run it, then browse to the file you want to check

Other DE's
Debian 5.xx KDE 3 (needs zenity installed), Fedora 15 LXDE, Kubuntu 8.04.2 KDE 3 to 12.04.1 KDE 4 (needs zenity installed), Linux Mint 9 FLUXBOX, Lubuntu 10.xx and 12.xx (needs zenity installed), Xubuntu 10.xx and 12.xx, Arch Linux LXDE

TRANSLATION

If you wish to translate Hash Checker into your language, you can take a look at Hash Checker's pack. Extract it and open it's folder. Inside it you'll find "files" folder and "Translation" file in it. Also, you can download "Translation" file from this site, which might be better idea, since it is up-to-date.

Changelog:

Please, read the readme file for full Hash Checker's changelog.

What's new in v4.0.7

Added: Finnish language
Added: Integration into MATE's Caja (right-click > scripts > (nautilus >) hash checker script name)
Removed: Stupid *~ (backup) files
Fixed: Detecting if localized version available (sorry folks, it was pretty STUPID bug)
Fixed: Double results in result dialog box when checking the same file twice (without closing HC first)
Changed: In uninstall dialog "WARNING!!!" replaced with "Uninstall?"
Changed: HC's icon a bit improved/smaller in size
Changed: Result text files changed extension from .txt into .*sum
Changed: Other minor changes

Known issues:
KDE

Desktop folder in KDE4 doesn't work with Hash Checker's desktop icon (default's to ~/Desktop)
ALL
"Google it" function doesn't work in any distro that doesn't have xdg-user-dirs(-update) package installed. Luckily most distros do! :)

The usage part there says about dragging a file to the desktop icon... Can we safely delete the desktop icon or will that cause breakage?

First, thank you for your interest Hash Checker. Originaly I added desktop icon to make Hash Checker usable with any other desktop manager besides Nautilus. If you're using Nautilus as your desktop manager, desktop icon can be safely removed, since you'll still be able to use Hash Checker by right click on file (or anywhere else on desktop) > Scripts > Check Hash, but then you'll loose ability to drag'n'drop files to it. Drag'n'drop doesn't work on other DE's and those other DE's (such as XFCE, LXDE, KDE...) need Hash Checker's icon.

I ment other desktop managers, not DE's. LXDE uses PCmanFM as file/desktop manager, XFCE uses Thunar, KDE uses Dolphin/Konqueror, GNOME uses Nautilus...

Very good. I don't like having icon's and files on my desktop as i have conky and screenlets making up my desktop "theme".

Been wanting to make a nautilus script to do just this. I suppose i don't have to now ;)

 No new HC update

I was too busy last month, so I made no changes to HC. Anyway, not much would have been changed, except removal of Portugese (Brasil) lang, since it's been too long since it's last update and maybe few small details in HC itself. Stay tuned for changes in next month! :)

Sorry for being late with latest HC issue. I haven't had enough time to test it on different distros and configurations. If all goes well, new Hash Checker should be available in a day or two.

As I promised, new Hash Checker is out. Nothing important has changed except for Portugese translation (now it's removed). Some neat changes in new HC made Setup script smaller (beside Portugese being removed). Check it out, and as allways, report any bugs found ASAP.
Cheers!

I'm happy to announce that I've recived one more translation for Hash Checker - Slovakian! As usual, first I'm going to check it out once I manage to get enough of free time, so expect it in next release (4.0.5), next month.
Stay tuned in! ;)

 HC 4.0.5 delayed

I'm sorry to inform you that next release of Hash Checker has to be delayed for a few days since I just cannot reach enough free time to implement Slovakian translation into it. So far, that is the only change I have, by release time there might be some more. HC 4.0.5 should be here at least by the end of this month (as Christmas gift ;))

HC 4.0.5 done, waiting for test results

As title above says, HC 4.0.5 is done. Now just to recive reply from Slovak translator, and if all is ok, HC should be here in no time. Haven't had time to make any IMPORTANT changes, but HC 4.0.6 should bring one small but useful detail in hash result window. :)

Merry Christmas and Happy new 2012! :)
