GnomishBeige

GTK 3.x Theme/Style

Score 72%
GnomishBeige
zoom

Depends on  GTK 3.x
Downloads:  11540
Submitted:  May 29 2010
Updated:  Dec 10 2012

Description:

GnomishBeige is a clean beige theme for GTK3, based on the Adwaita engine, plus a matching GNOME-Shell theme. Its dark variant is almost identical to GnomishDark.

The package also includes a GTK2 theme, that depends on the latest Murrine and Pixmap engines.

*** Current Dependencies ***

GTK3 = 3.6.X
GNOME3 = 3.6.X
gnome-themes-standard = 3.6.X
gnome-shell = 3.6.X (for GNOME-Shell)
gtk2-engines-murrine >= 0.98.1.1 (for GTK2)
gtk2-engines-pixbuf >= 2.24.10 (for GTK2)
Metacity >= 2.34 (for GTK2)

*** Notes ***

1) Ubuntu lacks a standard GNOME installation. Its users should remove the package(s) "overlay-scrollbar" if they see blackened widget areas or if they just want to have the default scrollbars. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/overlay-scrollbar/+bug/1064147

2) Please take a look at the file "README" in the theme folder for a tip on Epiphany.

3) You won't need the source package unless you want to modify the theme or make a deb or an rpm package from it.

4) The "backdrop" state flag is ignored because it doesn't add to usability and can make backdrop widgets less readable.

5) The panel font is Bitstream Charter, provided by xfonts-scalable on Debian based systems and by xorg-x11-fonts-Type1 on Fedora, but it's not necessary.

Changelog:

.....

Oct 18 2012
------------
Updated for GNOME-3.6.
Sleeker scrollbars.
Made the dark variant almost identical to GnomishDark.

Dec 10 2012
-----------
Thin scrollbar sliders that become thick on mouseover (for GTK3).
Removed scrollbar troughs.
Support for Nemo (a Cinnamon theme will be included in January).
Support for the Shell extension Dash-to-Dock.
Fixes.

Bonsoir,

J'utilise GnomisBeige depuis janvier 2012. Dois-je faire une mise à jour et comment, s'il vous plaît ?
Par avance, je vous remercie.

A bientôt.

Good evening,

I use GnomisBeige since January, 2012. Do I have to make an update and how, please?
In advance, I thank you.

Goodbye.

Hello!

The date of the latest version is May 5th. Just download the theme (NOT its source) from here, extract the archive, and put the extracted folder 'GnomishBeige' in '/usr/share/themes/' (remove any previously installed folder 'GnomishBeige' from there first). You might need log out and log in after that.

I usually update this theme when a later version of Gnome comes out or when an issue is reported.

 Custom grip

Hi,

Someone know, how can I add a custom grip (resizer, slider) for the GTK3 theme ?

Hi,

There are only two values, namely -GtkWindow-resize-grip-width and -GtkWindow-resize-grip-height. The default value (used in this theme) is 16 for both. If you set them to zero, the resize grip will disappear.

Resize grips are style properties of GtkWindows. It isn't possible to use images for them.

 My favorite GTK3 theme

I simply love this theme. II would like to see a deeper beige/brown color added though. I use this on every Gnome distro that I try.

Also, I'd like to see an update. It's been a while, you know. You're very good at writing themes.

Regards,

Bob

Thank you :)

I'll update the theme soon. I've made some changes but I kept the colors.

 source bug

 by hotice on: Dec 11 2012

The source can't be compiled anymore in the latest Dec 10 2012 version:

glib-compile-resources --sourcedir=GnomishBeige/gtk-3.0 GnomishBeige/gtk-3.0/gtk
GnomishBeige/gtk-3.0/gtk: Error on line 9 char 1: Error processing input file with to-pixdata:
failed to load "GnomishBeige/gtk-3.0/assets/menu-border.svg": Couldn't recognize the image file format for file 'GnomishBeige/gtk-3.0/assets/menu-border.svg'

Previous versions worked just fine...

I downloaded the source from here and found no issue: I used the same command as you did and the file gtk.gresource was created correctly.

Are you sure you haven't changed or removed anything? Please download the source and retry! That command should be issued from inside the folder gnomishbeige-20121210.

I'm building it on launchpad and it has worked for the past few months.

Here's the build log: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/125453180/buildlog_ubuntu-quantal-i386.gnomishbeige-theme_20121210-1~webupd8~2_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

I've also had to add "libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev" as build dependency or else it would fail to build with another error.

From the log I can say that, for some reason, the file menu-border.svg is missing or corrupted on Launchpad.

> I've also had to add libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev...

Yes, the theme uses to-pixdata now, which is more compact. gnome-themes-standard v3.6 uses the same method too. However, the error message isn't related to that.

I've re-downloaded the theme from here, re-uploaded to Launchpad, same bug, same error so it's a bug in the theme... maybe you've uploaded a corrupt file?

Please believe me ;) The archive is healthy. I even downloaded gnomishbeige-theme_20121210-1~webupd8~2.tar.gz from https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team and made gnomishbeige-theme_20121210-1~webupd8~2_all.deb with the command:

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

If you need the deb package I made, I could upload in to my dropbox and give you the link.

I don't need the deb, launchpad needs to built it successfully, which it doesn't even though it used to work until today :)

There's nothing I can do then, I'll have to remove it.

I've managed to get it to build, after adding these: libglib2.0-dev, libgdk-pixbuf2.0-dev, libxml2-utils, libgtk-3-bin, librsvg2-dev and libgtk-3-dev to build-depends

Thank you very much for the information. I'll add those build dependencies to the sources of all the Gnomish themes with the next updates.
