Description:

==== THE WIN2-7 PACK IS NOT UNDER DEVELOPMENT ====

Thank you for visiting the Official homepage of the Win2-7 pack!

=== Intro: ===
Even from its start in late 2009 as an Gnome Icon pack, the Win2-7 Packs goal has not changed...To be the most comprehensive, easily installable, customizable and most user friendly Windows 7 Transformation Pack on earth for the Gnome Desktop! :D We are amazed at how close we have come! Feel free to download and install it, make sure to vote if you like it and comment if you have anything to say and even donate a few bucks! But be sure to read the FAQ first before you install. We have put in hours and hours to make the Win2-7 pack do a very careful and safe installation and uninstallation, but none the less, use at your own risk and make a backup just as you would during any major update. Anyone involved in the Win2-7 Pack Team is not liable for any dataloss or damage that is the direct or indirect result of the Win2-7 Pack.

=== Quick FAQ: ===
Q: How do I install? A: Run GUIInstall.sh.
Q: How do I uninstall? A: Run GUIUninstall.sh.
Q: What languages are there? A: English , Danish and Croatian.
Q: Is it compatible with my system? A: Check the "Compatibility Chart" under Links.
Q: How can I extract it? A. Use "Extract Here" from the context menu or run "cat Win2-7Pack*.tar.lzma | lzma -d | tar x" at a terminal.
Q: When extracting I get: "This does not look like a tar archive"? A: Remove ".tar" from the end of the filename.
Q: I want to help translate? A: Send Dart00 a Private Message with your language and personal e-mail and experience.
Q: My Panel Menu does not look like the one in the Screenshot? A: Gnomenu must be installed (using Win2-7 Essentials or some other way) and added to the panel manually.
Q: It looks like it installed correctly but does not have any of the Microsoft logos, icons, sounds, cursor...etc. A: You did not install the Win2-7 Restricted Extras in the Win2-7 Essentials options.

The only thing iv seen this easy, but for Mac is the Mac4lin pack (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/files/mac4lin/ver.1.0/Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0.zip/download)

Were going to tackle a XP project after we finish up Windows 7 THEN were going to do a Mac theme.

Feel free to subscribe. We will update the page with links once we get the next project don't, eventually you'll see Win2-Mac. :) Oh, and don't forget to vote!

 Grrr

For some strange reason, the Windows Pearl toolbar just will not take on anything but ati video cards.

I'm talking about the "click the windows pearl" and see the windows-esque menu.

I've tried it on and nVidia 7150 GO, a nVidia FX500, and an Intel 4500HD, and the toolbar just never turns out right.

It only worked on an ati card. All the computers were using Ubuntu 10.04, and they were all fully patched and everything was enabled. I tried different settings, and installation comibnations. At first I thought it was because it said nVidia cards didn't support parts of the theme, but then it didn't work on the Intel card either.

Grrrrrrrr it's so close...

Oh and I tried the theme out on a USB stick, if you have Screenlets or Compiz Fusion open then you'll get error messages when running the uninstall.

Ok thanks. ill make a note to not run the scripts on pendrives or external/removable storage. Maybe i can find code to detect removable storage and block the uninstall and install.

No don't! It installs fine on USB drives.

If you get error messages uninstalling it works fine and looks fine. It goes back to the boring Ubuntu theme just fine.

It's REINSTALLING after UNINSTALLING, you get an error message on random parts being installedsaying you have stale NFS locks or the server can't eb reached.

It's not the fact that its windows, it is how well it was put together. Excellent job. I created this account just to comment on this theme. I will be donating, count on that. Keep up the excellent work. Can't wait to see the OS X theme.

Sounds good =^.^= Make sure Jesus gets some too, hes the genius behind the art! :) Also dont forget to become a fan and vote!

As for a release schedule..mmmm...

Win2-7 has a little more work that needs to be done on it, little more fine tuning and a I wana add a few more distros before we wrap it up. :) We also "may" have a HUGE surprise for everyone if we can get on top of things. Were working on Mendriva support but are having issues with bugs, also CentOS has a few bugs that need to be worked out.

After we finish up Win2-7, we are going to use the same script and swap out the resources and optimize the script for Win2-XP. Since XP is simpler, it should be a easy work and since the script will be comptable with many distros, we wont need to add any more, so Win2-XP should be good and quick and look just as good! (Win2-XP already has some development work complete)

Then well use the script and fine tune it for Win2-Mac! There are TON of possibility for that and we cant wait to break ground on it! Its going to be LOADS of fun.

As for a time line, idk, depends how many issues we find and time we have and how much "life" we have to deal with.

Glad you enjoy it. And most of all: Become a fan and Vote!!!!

 Just a few suggestions

 by Linuxguy0481 on: Nov 19 2010

I installed this using Ubuntu 64 bit so far so good but except with one minor thing.

The desktop icons are more to the right instead of right on the edge in native Windows 7. Let me explain it some more. There is a space between the edge of the screen and the desktop icons. Enough room to put another set of icons. When I booted into native Windows 7 on my computer. All the desktop icons were on the very edge of screen. Just one minor issues I have. I hope you guys can fix this or let me know if their is a workaround.

I've noticed Ubuntu is the most compatible Linux Distribution on the chard. I am running Linux Mint since it's based on Ubuntu I thought it would be compatible like Ubuntu is. Hoping in the future better support for other distros.

I just want to thank you for producing this. Maybe one day I will switch to Linux full time. Just two programs I need Itunes for wife and Microsoft Office 2010 that's holding me back.

Hey, thanks for the coment and im glad its working out for you. :) Dont forget to become a fan and vote!

As for ur suggestion, theres nothing we can really do if im understanding ur issue correctly. The horizonal alighnment is fixed. Its a Gnome thing and is out of our control, as far as i know there is no workaround....Maybe i Gnome 3 that will be fixed. :)

I will review Linux Mint support but last time i checked that was the best we could do. It all depends on versions and what packages are availiable. Also from my research, Linux Mint may be based off Ubuntu, but it is NOT Ubuntu, the package base is very diffrent. :p

As for ur switching over issue. Take a look at a program called "Virtualbox" They offer a deb. if u have a gig of RAM u can "virtualize" Windows. So u can always be in Linux and bring windows up when u need it "inside" of Linux. No reboot required cause its treats it more like a program. :)

Thanks for the support.

You can install Microsof Office 2007 and, probably, 2010 using the "PlayOnLinux".

But you can also try the "LibreOffice"

Hmmm. Strange. Try re downloading the pack and see if that works?

Also try checking the permissions to the GUIInstall.sh, make sure its marked as executable or it will always open it in gedit and not offer to let you execute it.
