Description:

==== THE WIN2-7 PACK IS NOT UNDER DEVELOPMENT ====

Thank you for visiting the Official homepage of the Win2-7 pack!

=== Intro: ===
Even from its start in late 2009 as an Gnome Icon pack, the Win2-7 Packs goal has not changed...To be the most comprehensive, easily installable, customizable and most user friendly Windows 7 Transformation Pack on earth for the Gnome Desktop! :D We are amazed at how close we have come! Feel free to download and install it, make sure to vote if you like it and comment if you have anything to say and even donate a few bucks! But be sure to read the FAQ first before you install. We have put in hours and hours to make the Win2-7 pack do a very careful and safe installation and uninstallation, but none the less, use at your own risk and make a backup just as you would during any major update. Anyone involved in the Win2-7 Pack Team is not liable for any dataloss or damage that is the direct or indirect result of the Win2-7 Pack.

=== Quick FAQ: ===
Q: How do I install? A: Run GUIInstall.sh.
Q: How do I uninstall? A: Run GUIUninstall.sh.
Q: What languages are there? A: English , Danish and Croatian.
Q: Is it compatible with my system? A: Check the "Compatibility Chart" under Links.
Q: How can I extract it? A. Use "Extract Here" from the context menu or run "cat Win2-7Pack*.tar.lzma | lzma -d | tar x" at a terminal.
Q: When extracting I get: "This does not look like a tar archive"? A: Remove ".tar" from the end of the filename.
Q: I want to help translate? A: Send Dart00 a Private Message with your language and personal e-mail and experience.
Q: My Panel Menu does not look like the one in the Screenshot? A: Gnomenu must be installed (using Win2-7 Essentials or some other way) and added to the panel manually.
Q: It looks like it installed correctly but does not have any of the Microsoft logos, icons, sounds, cursor...etc. A: You did not install the Win2-7 Restricted Extras in the Win2-7 Essentials options.

Im not sure, reboot it a few times, afaik it should just load up to the desktop?

I think you'd need to leave a comment on the source-forge page, I haven't tried it out to even see what it looks like. :p

Also I think its based of 5.9 or 5.9.1 unless they updated it for 6.0

I'm trying to test the LiveCD. It is still asking for a password. What can I do to pass this step and test the LiveCD?
I am Brazilian and would love to test this customized version of Ubuntu, I am recommending Ubuntu for all my friends. With this ISO is easier for them to use Linux.

Please help to resolve my doubt. Thanks!

Yes, I already tried that way. But you can see, there is an authentication failure.
I tested the integrity of the ISO, is normal.
What can be? There really is a password for this custom version?

Here in Brazil it has occurred to me to use a version called Biglinux, that also requested that password to initialize.

Thank you for your response and attention ...

When you install the pack, if you did Turbo Mode it should of installed a Gedit and Rhythmbox plugin for Murrine. If you did a standard install, these 2 boxes should of been checked when asked.

- Make sure ur using Ubuntu 10.4 or 10.10
- Have the plug-in installed
- Are using one of the True Aero themes.

Getting following error:

tar: this does not look like a tar archive

It isn't about it being free. Rather, its about the freedom it brings.

remove the ".tar" from the end of the file name. Sometimes the download process adds it on, not sure why.

it should be:

.tar.lzma

NOT

.tar.lzma.tar

If you download it in Windows, it creates the tar as .tar.tar.tar

In Ubuntu 10.04, it creates it as .tar.lzma

I've tried downloading the theme on Windows, and then chaning the extensions, but it just messes everything up.

I've even tried dowloading it in Windows, then moving it too another PC. It said it would take like 457 hours to copy it.

The only way that worked for downloading the theme, was use Ubuntu all the way through. Ir seems if Windows touches it, it causes problems.

I think it's the way your compressing it. Does it have to be in .lzma? Windows handles .tar.gz fine.

So unless you feel like switching to gzip or making several mirrors.

Guess you have to use Ubuntu with it.

This would really only effect people that are trying to update an offline PC over sneakernet.

Hmm...we switched for tar.gz (upto 5.2 I think) to tar.lzma cause of lzmas insane compression rates. It shaves off ~5MB sometimes off from tar.gz!!!

Maybe we could switch back to tar.gz if there was enough of a need for it, just makes it easier to upload and faster to download if its using lzma.

Well im trying to avoid that because of file size, we only have 1GB of space and want to keep legacy versions and current builds on the server.

Also the time it takes to upload both copies, esp since tar.gz is larger.

If we get a few more comments on the matter well switch back to tar.gz.

The install went great and worked like a charm, thanks for the hard work putting this together!!

One question...after the install, the start menu is the classic menu, not the Vista/Seven menu. How do you change that so the menu looks like the ones in the screen shots?

Well im not completely sure, but it seems straight forward.

Win2-7 only works on Gnome and will not install on anything else. So I have a hunch when it detects Unity it will block the install.

But the end of the article it says you could still choose Gnome for 11.4 so it should work with that option when the rest of the 11.4 comptability has been setup.

I guess Unity will go on the back burner with KDE for the moment.

Were still working on more Gnome distributions.
