Does it work with GNOME3 panel? What packages does it require for this (if yes)?

No, it doesn't work in gnome3 panel yet. Next release hopefully. I found a document on how to turn gnome2 applets into gnome3 applet but the instructions weresn't written specifically for applet written in python so...

 Problem with 0.44

by SpecKtacle on: Jun 10 2011

Score 50%

I just upgraded to 0.44 this morning and now DockbarX won't show up in either AWN or Gnome Panel. In AWN, the applet begins to load, but then disappears. In Gnome Panel, the applet loads, but no icons show up. I can access the right-click menu if I guess correctly where the applet is.

Do you have any errors in ~/.dockbarx/log/dockbarx.log?

Thanks. You seems to have one none working theme and there's a spelling error in the error handler. I will wait a few days to see if any more bugs comes in and and then make a bug fix release. Right now you can fix this bug by edit the file /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/dockbarx/theme.py by running

sudo gedit /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/dockbarx/theme.py

and in row 160 change exeption to exception.

I love DockBarX as dock, mostly because it is similar to the dock of Unity. The only thing missing is you have the option to auto hide...

However, good job!

 Delay in "Opacize"

 by R0bert0 on: Jun 11 2011

Score 50%

DockbarX is great!!!
Only a suggestion.. can you add a delay between the overing of the mouse on the preview window and the beginning of the compiz plugin "opacize" (maybe adjustable)?
Thie feature is great, but not every time a window is selected.
I'd like a gap because if i stay on the preview window, it could be a reason to show only that window
[I hope you understand what i'm saying]

No. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Do you mean that there's a bug in opacify that makes windows not being opacified some times and that you think a delay would be a workround for that bug?

I can't test myself since I use compiz 9.2 and opacify doens't work with it. :( Do deselecting "use smooth fade in/fade out" help at all?

No, that's not a bug.I'm using compiz 0.8.6 on Maverick and Opacize works correctly.
Mine was just a suggestion to improve usability of this feature.
I try to explain better: although i use often workspaces, sometimes i put several window on the same workspace beacuse i need them there (often just to see something as text, documents, etc..) and it's annoying to change every time workspace to see them. So the plugin Opacize is helpful because it shows me windows quickly. But eneabling the plugin in DockbarX, the opacification is applyed immediatly when i over the preview window. So, in daily use, it's annoying becasue the desktop "flicker" every time i select a window using the preview. I'd like to opacize the windows only when i need, and to do this, a way could be to keep the mouse over the preview window for a second or two.
So a delay [tunable according preference] beetween the hovering of the mouse and the beginning of the plugin could be the way to do this.
I know that's not easy to implement (and there are problem such as compiz 9.2, that does not allow to use "opacize" properly, and the future of Gnome with gtk3) but if it's possible, at least to me it would be great!

[sorry for my english but i'm italian - i hope i was understable]

 Unity quicklists

This is my .desktop file.

As you can see, menu order is completely wrong.

If it is important, I use DockBarX as standalone dock.

Right, of course. I didn't think at all about the order when I implemented this feature so the order will be completely random I guess. I'll fix it to the next version. Thanks for reporting.

Opacify and compiz scale no longer work.

Hi. I was using dockbarx in Maverick and it's great! However, I recently upgraded to Natty and now the opacify and compiz scale features no longer work. I have all the relevant plugins enabled in compiz so I don't know why this is.

Opacify doesn't work because of compiz 0.9.x I'm afraid it never will again. :( Opacify was pretty much an ugly hack that used compiz brightness, saturn and opacity plugin in a way it wasn't meant to be used.

Compiz scale should work with dockbarx 0.44, earlier versions didn't work with compiz 0.9.x.

That stinks about opacify, but I don't think I'll go so far as to downgrade compiz. Considering scale, I am using dockbarx 0.44. Here's the log: http://pastebin.com/nMGwMDrD.

Ok. Nothing in your log is related to compiz scale. There was another little bug though, thanks for that.

Check in compiz settings manager if the D-Bus plugin is active.

Yup, that did it. The FAQ only says Glib, so I guess I wasn't looking for D-Bus. Thanks a bunch!

Oh, perhaps I should recommend a fix too and not just rant...

For compiz scale please send in the ~/.dockbarx/log/dockbarx.log if you can't get it to work. If you really want opacify back you'll have to downgrade compiz. Here are instructions to do so. Read the disclaimers before going ahead. http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/how-to-downgrade-to-compiz-086-in.html
