I was lazy and kind of answered this question already in the comment below instead of doing it twice. :)

 Vertical panel, vert previews?

 by twa022 on: Apr 27 2011

I have my dockbarx as a AWN plugin in a vertical dock (Archlinux x86_64). When I have multiple windows open, and hover over the group button to see the window previews, they are spread out horizontally. Is there an option to have them spread out vertically?

Thanks so much for the program. I was afraid with GNOME2 about to go away, I wouldn't be able to use it any more, but it's so versatile, I guess I'll be able to use it some way for a long time to come.

Since version 0.42 they have been spread out vertically if the dock is vertical, what version are you using?

Regarding gnome 2 and what not... The next version of DockbarX will be able to run as a stand-alone dock so it should be possible to use it with gnome 3 without the need of running whole big AWN (it will be very basic though, nothing fancy).

I am using r385 from bzr on Arch Linux x86_64. I don't know if this could have any effect but I did edit some of the values in the theme, but I wouldn't think the theme would have that type of control.

I maintain the dockbarx and dockbarx-bzr packages for Arch, and when I pushed a recent upgrade, I removed python-gnomecanvas and then all the gnome-panel and bonobo dependencies. Could not having one of those installed be causing this?

Thanks for your help

Ok, this was a bug. A fix is committed. Thanks for reporting.

Good to see more people who uses the bzr. I'm in big need of more beta testers. Please contiune to report any bug you find, preferably at launchpad.

Okay, thanks.
In the future if I found something to report, what sort of log / other information would be helpful?

 11.04 windows previews bug

by zorinos on: Apr 30 2011

Thanks for the great applet! We've been using it in Zorin OS for over a year now and it's great!
There is a serious enough bug in the new Ubuntu 11.04 version (in GNOME classic mode) with the window previews in DockbarX. When I enable the KDE Compatibility Compiz plugin and enable the window previews in DockbarX the preview appears behind the popup which is a problem. Here is a screenshot of the issue: http://goo.gl/ha234
I hope it helps.

Once again, thank you for this applet!

This is a bug in compiz. There's nothing to do but wait until the compiz team makes this bug a priority, I'm afraid. (unless you're a programer with knowlegde in C and can help the compiz devs with problem of course.)

 Standalone DockbarX

by MilanKni on: May 12 2011

Score 50%

Hello,

I use the bzr version of DockbarX in Arch linux (forced by the recent removal of GNOME 2 stuff) and run it in the standalone mode.

However, the trouble is that in the standalone mode one of the major advantages disappears, since I have to keep _another_ panel for other functions (at least notification area, start menu for non-pinned apps, logout, cpu&network activity).

With GNOME 2 integration, everything resided in a single panel, which was excelent.

A partial solution would be if DockbarX does not extend itself to the whole screen width. Then, the two panels (DocbarX + whatever else) could live next to each other in a single row.

Any other ideas or even plans?

P.S. Note that I cannot use AWN since it requires hw acceleration/compositing, which does not work via remote desktop (NX, x2go, etc.)

 xfapplet

I'm not sure where to report my problem but here it is:
Using xfapplet I'm able to add dockbarx to the xfce panel and it is displayed but when I logout and log back in again xfapplet doesn't seem to load dockbarx properly and you have to manually add it yourself again.
Using Xubuntu 11.04.

Greetings:
When I try to run Dockx on Debian Testing, I get this error:

sudo apt-get install python-xlib

If you use the WebUpd8 PPA, that missing dependency has been fixed so update and it should work.
