 Idea: show desktop on over

 by brx75 on: Jun 29 2010

Score 50%

This is a feature request/idea:
it can be interesting to have a button on dockbarX for "show desktop". It should behave similarly to other launchers so that when mouse is over it, opacity of every window is reduced. When the button is clicked, the desktop is shown using the "show desktop" compiz plugin.

When you move the mouse over a group button Opacify group makes all windows transparent except the ones in the group.

Which program are you trying with? OpenOffice doesn't work for example.

This happens with every program: I don't see the expected menu entry on the launcher icon menu.

ok. Do

dockbarx_factory.py run-in-window

and post any error here. To make sure that you use something that surely are supposed to work, use gedit. And Open some text documents in gedit first to make sure that there are recent files to show.

Just to clarify. The errors (if there are any) will show up after you right click the group button.

Thanks.

Well, as a matter of fact I've been planning on doing just that. I've figured out how to implement that feature so I will just have to write down the code. In a couple of weeks maybe...

Same here.
Every time I time to put dockbarx on the panel, it says the same error.

I tried to copy by hand the dbx and dockbarx main py files and the bonobo server, but no dice.

Any idea of what this could be?

There has been a problem with zeitgeist if zeitgeist hasn't been installed. See instructions for installing zeitgeist above. (A fix is made for the next version that will be out in a little while, but you probably want the features you'll get from installing zeitgeist anyway...)

If that's not it, please run dockbarx in window and post the error here.

dockbarx_factory.py run-in-window

Ok it seems to work now.
The reason I haven't installed zeitgeist is because in the readme file there is a note that zeitgeist is optional.
Maybe making zeitgeist a required package will do the trick.
Anyway, thanks for the fast reply and continue the good work!

The fact that zeitgeist isn't optional is a bug and it will be fixed for the next version.
