I've tried downloading it myself and found it uncorrupted, perhaps you just had a dodgy download or something? However if anybody else has this problem please let me know. Try downloading it again, if you encounter the same problem let me know and ill just E-mail you the image

Hi! I love this theme too!
However, I've encountered the same problem as anon2 with Transmission's icon.
Could you send it to me?
Thanks! And keep it up!

I found something interesting about this small problem. Apparently it's not that the icon is corrupted, but it's access permissions are set to none for others. This is not a problem when installing the theme inside "~/.icons/", but when you install them in "/usr/share/icons/", you have to manually set the permissions to allow non-root users to read it. There other icons that have this problem, like "stock_send-fax.png" or "deluge.png" (which are apps I don't use, so I hadn't noticed before).
Cheers! And thanks again for having sent me transmission's icon!

You should change the ethereal icon to wireshark since it has changed for trademark issues.

Hi ConteXx its really nice to meet you, I do hope that you approve of what ive done with your theme and that i have done it justice. Fortunately i did have a truly amazing base set of icons to work with =). If at any point you would like me to take these icons off and take back over yourself or whatever please just let me know.

Thanks again and Best Wishes,

James

Heya,

Ill make the ammendments to your name and add a link to your deviantart profile on the next update. Im glad you think that ive good job, it was definitely weighing on my mind when i was making it. Making a bad job of a theme with your own icons is one thing but tainting someone elses is definitely worse.

I can quite believe the time involved in creating those icons, your icons are easily among the best on gnome-look. Im still relatively new to image manipulation and abit of a novice (hoping to improve over the summer if i get some spare time) but ive found even relatively small changes to images can take considerable effort. I have now covered almost every common icon (including quite a few i think that no other icon theme touches as yet), however not all of them are that good quality images so im slowly going over them all and trying to replace bad icons with some improved ones. If you should come across any bad icon that particularly irks you and create a better one i would be more than happy as im sure you can create a far better alternative than myself.

Thanks again for all your help,
All the best,

James

 Best Icon Theme EVER!!!

OMG thankyou SOO much for this theme, the icons cover everything, It looks really good with this dark theme im using at the moment but seems to fit with all my others too light or dark! Do you have any plans to create other things along these lines (Gtk theme, Metacity, GDM etc)?

Thanks im really glad you like my theme. I have been thinking of making a Polar Gtk/metacity theme in the future but as yet no work is currently underway. I have however created a few themes that use this theme which you might like...

I noticed that none of the games are included in this theme are you going to in the future?

It is possible that i will eventually do them in the future (i have actually long been considering making a frozen-bubble icon as a gimmick). Currently very few icon themes actually cover games in the themes, of the top of my head i can think of only one and even that just used the same icon for every game. The problem is people want small lightweight themes and with the huge selection of games out there, creating a icon for them all would seriously bulk up the theme size, not to mention that to make them all would be no small undertaking. For now my priorities for this theme are to plug any gaps that i or anyone else can come across and improve the quality of any of the icons. So keep your eyes open for them in the future but in the short term (other than possibly a few gimmicks) this is unlikely.

Best wishes,

James

 Install

by mmehan on: May 20 2009

I am pretty new to Ubuntu and am trying to install your icon theme but can't get it working. Here is what I've tried.

Tried dragging the file Polar_Icons_2_by_Jameshardy88.gz into the Theme tab of my Appearance Preferences. Got an error saying it does not appear to be a valid theme.

Tried putting file into ~/.icons

Tried unzipping the file in ~/.icons

Tried creating a new directory in ~/.icons called Polar_Icons_2_by_Jameshardy88 in which I put the contents of Polar_Icons_2_by_Jameshardy88.gz (a single file called Polar_Icons_2_by_Jameshardy88) and then tarred and gzipped it.

I was able to install another icon theme (black white 2) by uncompressing it in ~/.icons so I know I can do it on my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ah no sorry this is a problem with the work being uploaded onto deviantART. Try downloading again and putting the Polar Icons 2 by ~Jameshardy88 folder onto the desktop. open it and drag the polar icons 2 folder inside that onto the desktop as well. As a check when opened this folder should contain an index.theme file and a folder named "scalable" as well as 2 others. If this is the case right click on the polar icons 2 folder and create an archive. Then open your appearance preferences and drag and drop this archive onto it. This should install the theme. If you have any further problems or i have not explained it properly enough just let me know and id be happy to help you further,

All the best and hope this works for you,

James
