Description:

Thingamabob is a color-cycled mega-throbber, as it were. The progress bar radiates outward from the center of the screen until it completely fills the Ubuntu logo. Small strobe lights orbit the animation. The purpose of the theme is to give you something to focus on whilst you sip your coffee and wait for your computer to get its act together.

The text, its size, and its opacity can be changed by modifying the values on lines 31 to 33 of the thingamabob.script file. The default text is POWERED BY GNU/LINUX. But you may choose one of the alternates on lines 34 to 39 by commenting and un-commenting. Or you can write your own text - even multi-line text. Examples are provided.

As an option, the encircling strobe lights can be disabled by changing the yes to a no on line 28 of the script file.

The theme performs smoothly as described on an i7 3630 cpu and Intel HD 4000 hardware.

Use the install-thingamabob script to install. Other scripts are provided as related in the readme file.

Changelog:

Preview video added at link.

Current version increases the rotation speed of the original posts. Rotate speed can be modified at line 47 of the script.

Added a version with elements that are half the size of the original, for anyone who feels that the full-screen version is too large.

Very nice job! The only problem I had was I needed to change the name of the folder placed in plymouth/themes to match what your script was looking for.

Thank you for the thumbs up.

I have removed the 'gotcha' from all of my splash themes that could result in some one else having the same experience as you did.

And thanks for taking the time to post a comment.
