 error?

Hi when I use this theme I get the error "Too many symbolic links"

I installed like you said to in the read-me. Is this something on my end? And if so how can I fix it?

I really love the idea of a random picture everytime so I'd really like to use your theme =)

Thank you

when u say you get an error where is it coming from are u running the "selectbackground" scripts from the command line? are u using real pictures in the "pics" folder or are u using symlinks , is the error from the installer script? I've never had this error so i need some more info to work out whats happening

OK this is hwta I get when I install it.

:::::

matsuo@matsuo-desktop:~$ cd /home/matsuo/Desktop/RandomPicGDM/
matsuo@matsuo-desktop:~/Desktop/RandomPicGDM$ ./install.shNow put somw jpg's in ~/GDMThemeData/pics.
Then enter ~/GDMThemeData/data/SelectType to select random or sequential picture display.
Then enter ~/GDMThemeData/data/SelectBackground to select your login background.
Don't forget to set ~/GDMThemeData/data/SelectBackground as a start up program in System->Preferences->Sessions.
Or you can just run it manually when you want to change backgrounds.
You can re-run ~/GDMThemeData/data/SelectType any time to change to Random/Sequential picture choice.
Do you want to do all this now? (Y/n): Y
Put some jpg's into ~/GDMThemeData/pics and press enter
Select Random or Sequential login picture (R/S): R
/home/matsuo/GDMThemeData/data/SelectType: line 25: /home/matsuo/.config/logintype.rc: Permission denied
chmod: changing permissions of `/home/matsuo/.config/logintype.rc': Operation not permitted
All done...Bye!

:::::

Im about to log off and see if it works anyways.. but according to that it still says permission denied.

Blah this time it said the /usr/share/gdm/randompicgdm/desktop didnt exist... reinstalled as root and got

matsuo@matsuo-desktop:~$ cd /home/matsuo/Desktop/RandomPicGDM/

[sudo] password for matsuo:
root@matsuo-desktop:/home/matsuo/Desktop/RandomPicGDM# ./install.sh
ln: accessing `./background': Too many levels of symbolic links
Now put somw jpg's in ~/GDMThemeData/pics.

/root/GDMThemeData/data/SelectBackground: line 20: NUMBER %= MAXFILES : division by 0 (error token is "MAXFILES ")
All done...Bye!
root@matsuo-desktop:/home/matsuo/Desktop/RandomPicGDM#

sounds like the permissions for ~/.config are wrong (unlikly) or the perms for the files logintype.rc and maybe loginlist are wrong they should be 755 and owned by you, try that and see

OK I ave given permissions to myself for the entire .config folder and tried for the /usr/share/gdm/RandomPicGDM/desktop but that is where the issue lies... I'm getting the "Too many Levels of Symbolic Links" error and I cant change anythign to it

I was wondering if its possible to use this with Gnome 3/GDM3 without any problems and if it's been tested, or if you might know of an alternative?

Hi I don't use gnome 3 I have pretty much swapped to Xfce so all I can say is make a system backup and try it to see if it works, let me know if it does ( or doesn't )

 no gdm

ubuntu openbox lxde witch uses lxdm /usr/share/lxdm/themes/Industrial gtkrc. engine "pixmap" { image { file="wave.svg" } .. Looks like this uses backgrounds./usr/share/backgrounds. file set in user home dir. I would change pixmap to background. Ill have to create missing dirs to install. If I can get it to point to image file with permishions. maybe . looked a Feh & Sep gave me nose bleed.

To start this is for the gdm login screen not lxdm so you will have problems also I have dumped gnome and now use slim so I'm afraid I cant support this any more but feel free to do what you want with it.

Works great! Edit /usr/share/lxdm/themes/Industrial/gtkrc file="background" Create background link to /home/user_dir/GDMThemeData/data/background. Witch links to /home/user_dir/GDMThemeData/pics. Scripts work Select Random or Sequential! To start I simply added /home/user_dir/.config/openbox/autostart.sh
(sleep 2s && /home/user_dir/GDMThemeData/data/SelectBackground) & user_dir thats your home folder. All is fine thank you!
