Description:

Background

I began the Macchiato project in November 2008. My goal was to create a visually appealing light theme that incorporates some dark touches and to find just the right balance between dark and light browns.

I abandoned the project in January 2009 after releasing version 0.1 to work on other theme projects. After those projects went nowhere, I decided to turn back to Macchiato to fix a bunch of coloration bugs once and for all. I released version 0.2 in February 2009.

However, the theme still had color problems. So I've been working on it in my spare time to fix some of the new bugs. I think I have finally fixed the most obvious errors.

I also made changes to the panel configuration toso that it would go great with the Smoke panel background image, which can be found here: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Smoke+-+a+gnome+panel+bg?content=99748

What is included:

Due to uneven focus while working on this theme, I am no longer including the Cairo-Dock and conky configurations, as they no longer match the new vision for the theme.

The theme pack now only contains the Macchiato theme itself as well as an updated Emerald theme. The new Emerald theme no longer has the curved upper left corner.

Before you install this theme

In order for this theme to work correctly, I highly suggest installing the newest version of the Murrine Engine (0.90.3). The current version in the Ubuntu Intrepid repos (0.60.1) is outdated and will not be sufficient for this theme to work correctly.

Changelog:

30 DEC 2008 - 0.1 - Initial release.
23 FEB 2009 - 0.2 - Fixed color bugs.
14 APR 2009 - 0.3 - Fixed more color bugs.

Over 14,000 downloads and counting! Thanks to all who have downloaded this theme so far!

 What is that panel called?

by avian on: Apr 21 2009

Hi

What is that thing called at the bottom of the first screenshot above the usual Gnome panel?

It looks like it has text-only buttons for launching applications ("firefox", "nautilus", etc.)

Thanks for the wonderful theme.

That would be Cairo-Dock with custom launcher icons.

That looks great, just installed cairo-dock and it works smooth and fast, but the default configuration is horrid.

The one in the screenshot looks about perfect. Any chance you could share it?

 Some more color issues

by cypherpunk on: Apr 21 2009

Hi. Thanks for a great theme. I noticed in your updates you are addressing some color issues.

I'm sure it affects all distros but I'm not sure how to describe it otherwise. However, in Ubuntu at least, going to the Update Manager, Synaptic Package Manager, and Computer Janitor, all display in the standard grays, and are not colorized by your theme at all.

If you could fix some of that inconsistency (if it's possible) that would go a long way toward pushing this theme over the top.

Thanks!

This (unless i am mistaken) is not a problem with the theme. It happens to all themes that are stored within your home directory rather then the file system itself. Simply remove it from your .themes folder and put it in /usr/share/themes instead and it should correct the problem =)

 Panel

 by jameshardy88 on: Apr 22 2009

Hi, firstly i'd like to say you have done a truly great job on this theme its one of my favourites. I tried the smoke panel that you recommended and liked it alot. I was wondering how i might go about editing the gtkrc file to automatically just use that image each time i select the theme rather than having to change it manually each time in the panel preferences? Thanks again, James

 Well done theme!

As creator of Smoke, feel free to include the panel image as the default background in this theme if you feel so inclined.
Just a short credit would be fine if you want to use it!

Great job with this theme btw. It matches the panel very well, and I am glad to see you enjoyed it so much as to tweak your theme for it!

I have a question: why are the edges of my windows round unlike the one in the screenshot?
