Description:

No OS copycat here. Just a slick, clean, fat-free, Linux-only decoration. The goal is not a bottom-up new theme, but a careful, incremental improvement of some already good work. It's my first upload, so useful comments are appreciated.

It's a standard Compiz theme using VRunner engine. This is heavily modded from DBO's "Scaled Black Mod" which is a mod of twigsby's "Scaled: Black". I don't know which of these guys/gals made the buttons, but the Help, Sticky and Above buttons are all mine.

GTK is Glossy, Icons are a slightly modded Ubuntu Studio set.

 Right On

It looks almost exactly like Scaled Black, though a bit of an improvement, as the borders stand out but not too much.

Thanks, and yes, Scaled Black was the foothold for this. It was the first decent window decorator I found (have used Linux for only a couple months now), but the edges were too harsh for my taste. I had the same beef with the stock themes in windows (I now use the Royale or Zune themes when I'm in XP).

You're using compiz fusion, right? (the thing with the desktop effects, like the cube)

If so, go here
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Lowfat+Lefty+%28Emerald+version%29?content=77308
and download the emerald theme.

Then open up emerald theme manager, and click on the import button and navigate to where you downloaded the theme.

Then select it and you're good to go! If you dont have compiz-fusion, ubuntu with desktop effects on, or any desktop manager that uses Emerald for theming, then you're out of luck - and will have to download window decorations for your normal desktop manager (whether its GNOME or KDE)

What kind of linux are you using? PCLinuxOS? Ubuntu? Mandriva? -- The instructions are different depending on which flavor of linux you're using.

nice theme mate, i now many may see some kind of vistaish but i understand your design, its nicelly done.

in my opinion, you should try another version of it, thinner, lighter color and no transparency. give it a go ;) i think it will be very good!

Vista-ish? Is that 'cause of the transparency? I guess, but I feel like that's similar to saying firefox is explorer-ish because it has a 'back' button.

I would like to do something a little better and more thorough in the future, but I'm in the thick of my last semester of a Philosophy degree. That means a buttload of reading and papers; no time for hobbies.

I'm hoping to pull a spiffy pixmap from a blender project in the future.

 Opening in Emerald?

I cannot actually open the theme in Emerald. It tells me, that it expects a .emerald file, whereas this is cgdw-something.

So I am wondering how this is supposed to work then.....

This is one I had to learn when I picked up Scaled Black Mod. This is the *.CGWD file and you want the *.Emerald file, so you have two options: 1) Look under the Emerald(Beryl?) listings (instead of compiz). I've posted a *.Emerald there. 2) Just change the extension on the file you have from ".cwgdtheme" (or whatever) to ".emerald"

Just a note: get used to option two. Not many people post both formats.

Cheers! And thanks for showing interest.

Beautiful theme. I absolutely love it!

Can you please tell me which font and wallpaper you are using in the screenshot?

I want my desktop to look just like the screenshot!

Thanks!

The font is Perspective Sans (it's either GPL or just free. I got it at dafont.com)

Wallpaper can be found in the "abstract" section at the gnome art website.

I'm glad you like it. My goal is to eventually build/acquire the necessary GUI artwork for something that looks as good as OSX or Vista but doesn't look *like* them.
