by hectorsales on: Mar 28 2014

Score 50%

Hi, I'm testing ubuntu 14.04, and I added the set of icons through:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nitrux/nitrux-artwork
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nitrux-icon-theme

When i upgrade my system. there're are the next error after adding ppa:

"
Se utilizarán 66,6 kB de espacio de disco adicional después de esta operación.
¿Desea continuar? [S/n] s
dpkg: error fatal irrecuperable, abortando:
el fichero de lista de ficheros del paquete `nitrux-icon-theme'
contiene un nombre de fichero vacío
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2) "

How I can fix it ?

I think I'm going to have to re-upload the icons, wait a couple hours for the builds to build, the Trusty package though it's the first one to be available.

I think some systray icons have problem, for black panels, just check out banshee tray icon on gnome shell 3.12 or ubuntu unity panel. You should have monochrome or matte white tray icon variants :)

The icons for dark themes are in our Basic bundle - Nitrux available at the Nitrux Store (http://store.nitrux.in), icons tab>right side dropdown menus.

Look for blank lines in:
Quote:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/nitrux-icon-theme.list

Delete the blank lines, then you're all set.

Double check, if you have the package installed that file has to be there (or search system wide for any nitrux-* file). The packages have been fixed so remove that file, remove the package (use apt-get purge), update the package cache and re-install.

 a couple of suggestions

by sadi on: May 10 2014

Score 50%

IMHO this icon set is the closest thing to ultimate perfection, and I would like to make a couple of more suggestions to make it (in my view) look better:

1) Smaller symbolic link overlays
For example, I keep most of my user folders - i.e. Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos - under a separate partition and merely use folder symlinks in my home directory. But the present symlink overlays cover a substantial part of the folder-specific graphics in the centre, which doesn't look very good.

2) Mime-Type icon for TXT files, etc.
I like most Nitrux mime-type icons (which have carefully chosen background colors, and relevant and nice looking graphics in the center) and except the one for TXT and other miscellaneous (plain-text) files, which simply has a dark grey background with no graphics in the center unlike others. IMHO a lighter background color and a nice graphics in the center could be a good improvement.

Once again thank you so much for this great contribution to making Linux look more attractive :-)

The emblems (which is what the link icon is) are set at a small size, however Nautilus does not respect the size of it, it's hard-coded to display the icons at that size. It has always been like this.

None of the mimetype icons use white anymore, the blank text file is simply blank because.. well, it's for blank files who don't have a specific extension.

I understand...
How about using a (90% or even 100%) transparent background (and a grey arrow?) for link icons then?
I fully trust your final artistic preferences though ;-)

So Definitely the Best GTK Icon Theme will get even better; I'm holding my breath :-)

By the way here's the screenshot of emblems displayed in Ubuntu 14.04, which I think could be better if they were less intrusive: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39189022/Nitrux%2BGreybird.png

Nice theme ;) but yeah Nautilus has always showed the icons (emblems) like that.

And here's a screenshot with my amateur tweak on the symlink emblem:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39189022/Nitrux%2BDarkbird.png
I simply removed several background layers and then shifted the whole thing further toward the bottom right corner, but I'm sure something a lot better can be done.
And this time the GTK theme is also my amateur, work-in-progress Dark variation of the previous Greybird theme.

a couple of more suggestions ;-)

And - while you're working a new version - how about keeping the same folder bgcolor (and even the whole folder template) for special folders like copyapp, dropbox, git, launchpad, sparkleshare and wine so that they don't stand out so much, and differ only in the graphics in the center?

That's totally the intended effect, that they stand out since they're not standard user folders. If the colors were the same we'd have other folks saying that they look the same and can't tell them apart ;)

I understand; it's one of those preferential choices ;-)
I just thought I could perhaps win you to my point of view that the Dropbox folder, for example, should not be emphasized more than the Downloads folder ;-)
The good thing is that one does not have to stick with the default settings, and can easily make such personal choices any way :-)
