 Suggestion...

 by elwario91 on: Jul 20 2007

What we really need is something who makes Gnome looking good and easy!

I never found a really nice combination of themes :)

All these Vista themes are stupid but it would be really nice to make something original like the Vista theme!

And not only Windows Borders but a really complete Style for Gnome, like Linsta but not copied ;)

i agree.
vista has their aero stuff, mac has the dock - i guess clearlooks is the default "gnome look" but it doesn't have anything really defining.

although i suppose linux was built on the foundation that you could customize it all you wish.. but a specific gnome look would be good =)

I agree too, something like that is done by the Ubuntu project who use the Human theme wich is the combination of a Metacity+GTK+Icons theme.
Maybe isn't so beautiful like Mac or Win themes, but has consistency and is so clear and simple!

I think we can do something more pretty than Vista.

My thoughs are this the new leopard bar desktop looks very similar to the open source 'looking Glass project'produced by sun developers in 2006.To explore the future of desktops further download this project from Sun and give it a go.It's where solaris should be now.

I agree with you. In fact, if you go to those desktop art communities at Orkut (most of them have Windows as the OS),you'll see people trying to have a Mac or a Vista-like desktop.

I'm against this kind of mod and have 2 resons:

1- this makes people think that GNU/Linux just copies everything from the other OSes (they can't even differentiate users from developers).

2- It's only hype.

I'm not into Gnome and KDE world as much as I'd like,but maybe things could get better if the community had a kind of poll prior to the release to vote on the default wallpapers,the icon sets that should be included and so on. But maybe this issue is more distro-centered than WM-centered (yep...I didn't like the green desktop and gdm theme in suse 10.3)

 Set GTK Texts Colors

Hello everyone, I can't find this simple answer anywhere, so please answer and help me out, would you

I use Ubuntu Feisty and am trying to hack and modify an existing GtK Theme for the Pixmap GTK Engine in Gnome to create an original new theme. I'm hard working on it and am enjoying the experience, though I cannot find a way to modify the colors of the texts rendered in this engine. For example, I'd like to chage the colors of the texts of the menù entryes, or those setted for the default in Text editor or OO.org Writer...

Since the original theme was very dark, the default page in OO.org appeared black with white azurine text. Now, ince I find really odd that a default page in any text editor looks black (A real paper is white of course!) I modified it to look white but the text is obviously still azurine and wuite invisible. How can I edit this in my theme? Cannot find the right entry in the configuration files...

sure this is piece of cake for you guys so, please, help me, I need it really badly and couldn't find any hint googling

 Re: Set GTK Texts Co

something like that should be at the beginning of your gtkrc (dunno, i never used the pixmaps engine):

gtk_color_scheme = "fg_color:#003456\nbg_color:#FFFAF2\nbase_color:#FFF\ntext_color:#000\nselected_bg_color:#52C3FF\nselected_fg_color:#000"

as you can see, you can set the text color here, use a 6 digit hexadecimal number for the color (000 and FFF for black/white is not support by every engine, if so, use 000000 or FFFFFF)

also for interrest my be:

text[NORMAL] = @text_color
text[PRELIGHT] = @text_color
text[ACTIVE] = @text_color
text[SELECTED] = @selected_fg_color
text[INSENSITIVE] = darker (@selected_fg_color)

Hope that helps.

Mac OSX Leopard transformation pack for GTK+ on *nix systems

I am happy to announce the version 0.2 release of the Mac4Lin Project. Version 0.1 alpha has received an overwhelming response. People have used and liked it and the downloads (as on this day) have touched about 6GB!!! Lots of comments/suggestions/bugs were received and I have tried to iron out all the bugs known till this day. This update also brings a whole lot of new things. See the changelog for changes.

Special thanks to Victor of vsdigital for provding the Firefox Safari Skin and thanks to everyone who tested the version 0.1 alpha. Because of this I'm assigning version 0.2-stable to this release. Keep visiting the project website for more updates.

Apply it, flaunt it, enjoy it! :)

For any suggestions/comments/complaints/feedback/bug tracking please drop by my blog or send a mail:
