 Icon formats and usage

by jadube on: Dec 24 2008

Score 50%

When i try to assign a custom icon in a panel or menu, I open properties for the item then attempt to choose my icon. I then browse for an icon, but dont understand why/when a format (xpm, png, svg, ico, etc.) is required. Or,how/why icons are organized in usr/share pixmaps, icons, home, or where I should keep my (few) custom icons. I'm not trying to create an icon set...just change a few icons on my ubuntu 8.10 desktop.

Any help or links to info would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't see any download buttons anywhere on this site. Please tell me, how do I download a compiz theme? I know what to do with it when I get it. I just can't see how to download it from here.

Any help appreciated (webmaster please take note!)

The theme you search for can be easily done with Emerald's Theme Manager, just take a look at engines, since titlebar buttons are the default one.
Good luck !

 Theme Installation

by afschell on: Jan 14 2009

Score 50%

I have installed some Metacity themes by manually extracting the .tar/.bz2 files in the /usr/share/theme directory. These themes are not available when I go to use them via the "User Preference" menu items.

I noticed that only those themes that are available via "User Preference" have an "index.theme" file. This file is not present in the new Metacity themes.

Any idea what I am missing?

TIA

Fedora 10/Gnome 2.24

Metacity expects to find themes in
/usr/share/themes or
/home/yourusername/.themes
the second is hided folder and writeable, so you should prefer this one; after that it should be a folder named "metacity-1" which contains all necessary files; better extract themes into your Desktop folder first, see if there is the wright directory, and you can move or copy the folder into one of the paths above where Metacity can read it.

Good luck !

Hi ... I'm new to the site. I just want to upload a GDM theme to the site, but once I complete the "Add Artwork" form and submit the data, the system keeps telling me:
"Please enter a paypal account in your profil befor creating payment links."
I didn't ask for any payment links, didn't check any "sell content" checkbox or the "accept donations" checkbox or anything else ... I just want to upload the GDM theme. Any ideas what's going on and/or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any reply.
Moonchild
