septi is posting nothing but spam links as themes and other material. IMHO, he's a spambot that needs to be banned.

just a heads up

I have informed Frank over this, but unfortunately he doesn't seem to have read this mail. So I guess we'll have to wait.

Sooo... we have a large website (like GNOME-Look) and it only has ONE admin?! Oh lord, that's asking for trouble.

I spoke too soon. Another one (MoonBlossom) has appeared. The staff seriously needs to consider anti-bot and ban features.

 How to isntall these

Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie to Linux and inspired by the creative art work done by fellow members. I want to know how to install these themes into my Linux OS. I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 version. I don't see anywhere in this site any simple guide for a newbie. Hope someone will give us a light.

For all the newbies wanting to know how to install the themes:

1. download the theme archives.
2. copy ad paste them to /home/$USERNAME$/.themes
3. extract them, the archive can now be deleted
4. go to menu - System - Preferences - theme - theme details and navigate to your theme

NOTES: The /.themes folder is hidden, to show click ctr+H (for Nautilus, default for Ubuntu)

Sometimes the folders in the archive are made up to show you where to put them (for example the extracted archive may look like this: FILES/usr/share/themes/THEMENAME/)
Just put the THEMENAME folder in the place I said.

You can also put your themes in /usr/share/themes to make them availible to all users on the computer, you will need sudo rights for that.

 Re: How to install

I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 and each time I try to install a theme (d/l'd a few GDM Themes), I'm getting a "File format is invalid" error message. This was trying to install by method detailed in the "Theme Help" file.

Tried the method you've described above and get same error when trying to install.

When checking contents of the theme archive and comparing to some other themes I d/l'd from here, the GDM Themes don't have a "GTK+ configuration" file (which is what I think Ubuntu may be looking for).

Am I only going to be able to install GTK themes & no others from this site?
This is getting bl**dy annoying.

The instructions in the link below worked just fine for me. Not sure if they'll work for all theme types.

 Acidently "p0wned"??

Hi there developers of this site... This is an important security hole!

I'm not the person who ownes this account "arox1".
I just searched google for my name (not specified here) and klicked on one result, wich was my profile on gnome-look.org.
FUNNY THING was: I was already logged in as user "arox1" ...I could access this users profile and EDIT EVERYTHING (what I didn't do! Only thing I did is write this post) Info: I'm on a brand new machine, brand new firefox installed, and never was on gnome-look before with this computer before...
Better solve this secuity issue!!

You can send a mail to the site-owner.
Just search for "Frank" at the kdelook.org site and you'll get it.
I don't know, whether anybody reads this forum :(

GTK themes (buttons, tabs, etc) are usable with beryl, but maybe are you talking about metacity theme (window decorator)? If it's the case I think that it's not possible because metacity is not prepared to be used in a "composited environment"
