 screenlets-load settings

by aho on: Oct 20 2008

Hi, I am new to Linux, python, and Screenlets. if this question is too n00b please go easy on me =)

I wanted a screenlet that would show a month's calendar, read google calendar, highlight the days with events occuring, and list upcoming events for the next few days.

I mashed Whise's ClearCalendar and NowCalendar to accomplish this, and modified the included iCal.py to work with timezones and return events and times properly with google's iCal file.

My problem is with loading settings from .profile/... screenlet settings are loaded correctly (position, lock, treat as widget, etc.) The properties menu settings show up in the settings file, but they don't get loaded to the GUI when I restart the screenlet; default settings I set in constructor are there. Other screenlets do this, and they don't load from .profile/.../settings explicitly, so I guess it must be somewhere in screenlets class that it's being done. Is there something I'm missing? I'm also confused a little about what goes in __init__ and on_init. In example screenlet, it says creating menus should be done in on_init, but most other programs I've seen do it in __init__.

Sorry for such a long post, any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should repost on the Screenlets/Universal Applets forums.

Whats with all the Porn Crap!?

I have been searching for wall-papers this morning and to my surprise I have been forwarded to a site called 'Hotlinkimage.com'. I'm shocked that the moderators and administrators of this site has allowed links to this site!!! I thought this was a child friendly site!? I like porn just as much as the next guy, but for god sakes - get rid of all links pointing to this ' Hotlinkimage.com' I've already been exposed to full on porn this morning inadvertently. This is not kid-friendly! Please bring back the safe gnome-look.org that was so great for everybody.

 paedophilia??????????

I was trying to download a wallpaper from this site (the port, 1440x900) but the link had been detected and blocked by italian police because of paedophilia.

I tried to download another wallpaper (but I cannot remember which) and even this link was directed to a hot page.

What's happening to this site?????

Please check it out!

Thank you

There's a user who posts stolen images as his own to KDE-look and Gnome-look. The download links take you to sites with tracking cookies, other malicious crap and sometimes porn. I've reported him twice but the mods don't seem to care.

For example this http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Green+bird?content=89090

If you look at exif info, it says: # Keywords = Green Honeycreeper / Chlorophanes spiza / Chlorophanes
spiza aguta / Canopy Tower Lodge / Soberania National Park / Panama /
Chlorophanes spiza aguta / kookr
# Copyright Notice = David Cook Wildlife Photography. All Rights Reserved

The guy above you complains about the site this thief uses, hotlinkimage. The wallpaper you talk about, the port, is also posted by the same spammer.

The spammer's username is chiajioc. You can see his contents at latest wallpapers. They are all stolen, he regularly "updates" them to get more clicks.

It's a shame mods don't do anything on gnome and kde-look. The content here should be free, not stolen.
